‪A beautiful walk thru this well kept and updated preserve. The pond has a lot of wildlife and the foliage is green and healthy. Trails and boardwalk make walking very easy.
Be sure to have insect repellent !‬

‪Always looking for parks to visit in our Treasure Coast area, we decided to check out D.J.Wilcox. Pulled into the parking lot and got a creepy feeling as there was a single car parked there with a shady looking person sitting alone inside. Wasn't sure we wanted to leave our car unattended. My wife and I decided to hike anyway. The initial trail is a beautiful boardwalk with water and looks very pretty and inviting. Not more than a few minutes into the wooded part of our hike we started to get bitten by mosquitoes. We pressed on until we were swarmed and broke into a run to get away. We continued running until we completed the main trail and returned to the parking lot. There we came upon a law enforcement officer with some prisoners who apparently were doing some clean up work in the park. There was another single car parked with someone sitting inside. I believe this park has some great potential, however we experienced a creepy and mosquito swarmed visit. Not sure I would try D.J. Wilcox Preserve again. If we do, we will be prepared with repellent, both mosquito and pepper spray.‬

‪I went for a walk in the area and take some pictures. The paths are very wide and well manicured. There is two paths to take that loop around on itself. The Blue trail actually includes a path to an observation tower. There is some areas that are rough with roots and wet areas. So wear comfortable shoes or hiking boots and bug spray. This place also had an elevated walk way to look over the small water area for wild life and be one with nature.‬

‪Leuk natuurparkje waar je de mangroves kan zien en waar veel gekayakt wordt door de locals. Er is voldoende parkeergelegenheid‬

‪I couldn't find much info on-line regarding this "natural area" in St Lucie County so here are the details from my Jan 2016 visit: there are 2 trails - one in the forested interior for hiking and the other is on the perimeter of the park, good for hiking or biking. There is a parking lot on Michigan St, right across the RR tracks, that can access both trails. The interior trail starts with a boardwalk along "Gator Pond" (yes, there was a small gator! along with turtles and birds) then goes into the wooded area in a big circle. I visited after a lot of rain and sections of the trail were impassable. From the parking lot you can also walk or bike around the metal gate (looks like an old road?) that follows an overgrown canal, then heads North with the Indian River Lagoon on one side and a canal on the other. Its an unpaved trail - sandy and small rocks and grass. There is a fishing pier and other cleared areas along the shoreline to enjoy the scenery and wildlife. This trail then does a sharp left and heads back inland. There is another parking area here on Wilcox Road with a kayak launching area for the Indian River Lagoon. At this point I turned around and followed it in reverse to get back to my car, otherwise I'd have to ride along Old Dixie Highway to connect back to the lot where my car was.‬
