What a great place to kayak! The Loxahatchee River is beautiful. The water was very calm during our 2 hours of kayaking. We saw 3 alligators, many turtles and several water fowl. The attendant that set us up was super helpful and very friendly. I definitely recommend this experience if you are in the Jupiter area!

We were only in the park a short time, but it was wonderful. Very good trails, and lots of places to sit and/or have a picnic. We plan on coming back so that we can go on more trails.

I went on the free Loxahatchee Seminole battle tour lead by Jack of the Battlefield Preservation group. Jack is an amazing military historian. As a former Army officer he talks about leaders, tactics, and challenges of the Seminole wars in a very interesting manner. The tour takes about an hour with lots of stops. Very hard to imagine the conditions in the swamps in the 1800's. I believe the tours are every Saturday from October through May at 1000. Thanks Jack!

You can start either in the Jonathan Dickinson state park (JD) or in the Riverbend Park. It is eight-mile tour. You can start either in the JD (see website) or in the Riverbend Park. It is ight-mile trip from Riverbend Park, 9060 W. Indiantown Rd., Jupiter, to Jonathan Dickenson State Park. You have to decide one direction. Going up and down ends in a very long day. We started in the JD, made it upriver up to the barrage (approx a mile before Riverbend). All this took us 6 hours including a 20 minute visit of Trapper Nelson site.
Starting at J D the river is very wide. You reach Trapper Nelson. Here starts the narrow, twisty route under the cypress trees. In my onion the more interesting part. We passed a gator taking a sun bath.
cave: With a kayak rented at JD you are not allowed to go further than Trapper Nelson. We were not aware of this regulation (insurance issue) and did it.
We saw a few kayaks coming from Riverbend. Probably it is allowed from this end. trip from Riverbend Park, 9060 W. Indiantown Rd., Jupiter, to Jonathan Dickenson State Park. This Park offers much diversification for visitors of families and couples. Our group bicycle excursions explore off the beaten paths. Kayak and canoe trips can add to the excitement.

This park has lots going on construction-wise, but in a few months it will be well worth the wait. Horse trails, bike trails, fishing, kayaking...this park is a great community park!

Take a bike, walk or maybe a canoe/kyack ride. You can bring your own or rent them in the park. And, nothing wrong with just sitting under one of the thatched huts with a picnic lunce and a good book. Maybe one by a local author "Guns Across the Loxahatchee" by Richard Procyk. Read the book sit in the park and your transported back a hundred years. Great place

My recall is if you took every trail maybe 10 miles......maybe. Most are short and well marked. They are very easy hikes. Flat and level.
