The museum has so much information with regards to the early settling of Florida starting with De Soto and then continuing on up to current times. what really surprised me was that during the 2nd Seminole war many Black slaves, who had run away from their masters, free blacks and those who have been freed fought with the Seminole Indians for freedom. The museum is loaded with so much information be prepared to spend enough time reading the information

We were blown away by this museum! Completely exceeded expectations.
We were literally immersed in history - at one point, mere inches from an authentic Civil War uniform. Unreal!
The docent was kind and informative. He'd tell stories about the artifacts, but also allowed us quiet time to take it all in. He also recommended other historical sites nearby, which made for just a tremendous day.
Make sure to visit the "five flags over Florida" area just behind the museum, which tells of how Florida was ruled by various governments before becoming a state.
Plan to spend at least two hours here, at a minimum. We'll definitely be back.

What a great Museum! We were greeted promptly by Marilyn who showed us the helpful ride in the elevator. The warmth and passion for the history in this area long before it was the mega hotspot for visitors and relocated northerners. She and Price were so knowledgeable about their county that it made history come alive! What wonderful stories and so many items to show the history of the county. Well worth the visit. Loved seeing the 1960 through the 1970s Silver Springs park. What an amazing part of Florida history to honor and show the beauty of this area. If you have items to donate, stop in to see them. Just wonderful history of the grounds, the girls school and how it played a part in this community. 10 stars!!!

This place has some interesting local history, and a lot of artifacts, but rhey are not well curated. The artifacts are organized without a central theme, and not well displayed, in many cases. Ssome of the informational panels contain inaccurate statements, which makes one suspicious of the others. Looks like a largely amateur effort. The volunteers on duty ranged from enthusiastic to uncommunicative. Not really worth a visit, unless you are very much into local history, in which case you have probably already been, and may in fact be involved.

Do not miss this small, but extremely interesting museum. Lots of artifact representing several centuries with knowledgeable and friendly tour guides,

Had a few minutes and decided to visit the museum. We were the only people there so we were lucky enough to get a guided tour. The gentleman was knowledgeable and polite and shared a lot of info. Very small museum but the exhibits were nice

Being new to the area it was a good place to get a history of area. Not a big place so it can be part of a day of other activities.

ceshee72 said the man who explains things at the museum is creepy. YES, HE IS! He started talking about his religious beliefs, and how he doesn't believe in evolution, because of "rabbits" in America. Then he asked me if I knew the reason for the Civil War, and I said "slavery." He started to lecture me that I was wrong, and I moved away from him. He is overbearing and should keep his own ideas to himself.

We were fortunate to be able to enjoy a private guided tour as nobody else was there at the time! As Marion County residents of 15 years we were fascinated to find out about our local area.

Nice museum to see historical and archeological artifacts from Marion County. Donations are asked for and it is a nice way to spend an hour.
