Tandem!

I have been 7x in the last four years and I have not seen a single alligator. The water is crystal clear and the bottom is white sand. you can see fish and some times manatees. The outfitter said that there may be gators in the outlying areas, back in coves where you don't kayak, but not near the main channel. I hope this helps.

Yes it is safe for a non swimmer, so long as you wear the personal flotation device the rental agency provides you. Although the river is a nice leisurely ride for the most part, there are somewhat strong currents and deep pools on the bends.But don't let that discourage you, I have only kayaked a couple of times and had no issues navigating. I would definitely do it again the scenery is worth it.
