Good museum focused on local and regional information. Some good displays explaining Xhosa culture, construction, and historical wars.

The current museum is a shell of its former self. It was supposed to be a museum dedicated to the German settlers who arrived in the 1800's. It also had an interesting natural history section, a historical section and a separated Xhosa history section. Since 1994 most of the European exhibits have been removed and replaced with Xhosa exhibits that do not have anything to do with the settler theme of this museum. Fortunately most of the natural history section is still there. The staff are very laid back and not very well informed. How sad.

Very impressed with the museum. Whoever runs the place has tried to give a good overall perspective of the political, cultural and natural world we live in. From replicas and full story of Huberta (who was Hubert until it was realized it was a female), to fully displayed African wildlife, a wide variety of bird eggs, butterfly;s and sea shells on display on display and labled.
The political museum section is also worth the visit. Again, a topic which in most cases is boring has been brought to life with screens that portray and explain in detail. These screens are remote sensor-ed so as you walk closer it starts to play.
For a minimal fee of about R5.00 it is well worth the visit. Take the children and let them learn at the same time.

We experience some good reading material but Huberta the Hippo amused me the most. Please note over weekends you must make an appointment
