This is the nicest and most relaxing place to visit. Always fun to sit and watch the tubers float on by.

We had more fun sitting outside our condo watching tubers! They allow too many in at once so it gets jammed up. The water is very low. We saw many people ditch their tube and walk or get out of the water. My recommendation would be to go early and beat the crowds!

Water levels were very low, would suggest to plan this excursion for earlier in the summer for better flow. Frustrating getting stuck on the rocks constantly with so many people tubing. The last time I tubed the Chattahoochee was 5 years ago and the water level was better. What I really noticed was how dirty the river was in Helen. Trash all over the banks and river! So gross! When you advertise for tourists to come visit, be prepared to clean up after them! Sad to see the deterioration.

There is a great deal of trash along the river. The two companies who profit from using the river should be required to clean it up!

Being from Western NC, I have done a lot of tubjng and whitewater on beautiful rivers. This is not a pretty river. There is ugly cinderblock and concrete all along the banks. People have thrown trash in the river and along the banks (notably in downtown Helen, which the city seems to not care about). Throngs of people picknicking along the banks and leaving articles of clothing in the river and on the rocks.
The tubing companies are putting too many people in the river, and river levels are wayyyy too low, meaning you get a lot of people packed into small areas on the river. Some folks who were clearly not physically able to be on the river were there and 2 of them (too overweight to be tubing) endangered my child when they got stuck on rocks, panicked and grabbed her tube. I got out and pushed them off the rocks but told them they had no business being on the river if they could not float or swim to safety on their own.
It is a shame Helen and these companies make so much money on this river only to allow it to be polluted and abused. Hopefully, they will clean it up, but if our observations from this weekend hold true, they will just keep it as is to turn more profits.

Pack a picnic lunch, wade in the stream, look for rocks or just walk along side of the river. Of course, there are areas that you can tube as well. The Chattahoochee River offers something for everyone. We've done most of it over the years, but this year, we had burgers overlooking the stream. The sound of the water was so relaxing. Take a few minutes to enjoy what the river offers if you are in the area.

Plan to spend some time at the river's edge. The clear water and relaxed environment are hard to beat. You will lose your stress behind by the end of the afternoon.

Don't think I have ever seen the Hooch this low in all the years I have been coming to Helen. Still beautiful.

So amazing. Great for the entire family! My kids and I played each evening and we had a blast! Though, in Helen on the weekends.... lots of drunks peeing in the river!

We went tubing both days at 14 dollars apiece and stay at the Helendorf on the river. Very good trip for all.

You need to find out if the river is deep enough before you get there, or you’ll be rubbing your butt on rocks. Otherwise you just show up

I’ve gone river tubing before with my daughter that was one years old then but by the time i go next year she’ll be 3 years old. I’m wondering if there’s an age limit?

Rules posted on Cool River Tubing website:
These rules are enforced by the CITY OF HELEN.
1. It is unlawful for any person to use or possess any cooler or drink container, either in or upon the Chattahoochee River within city limits. (cups, bottles, cans, etc.)*
2. No glass allowed.
3. No littering — pack out all trash.
4. No coolers.
5. Respect other river users. (fisherman, kayakers, waders, etc.)
6. Respect private property.
7. No nudity.
8. No alcohol.
9. Avoid standing or walking on the river bank or river bed.
The Helen P.D. does patrol the river. If you are seen breaking any of these rules, especially littering or taking a cooler, you will be fined. *Each tuber may take one 32 oz. drink container with them. We don't want anyone to dehydrate, but please don't litter.
Our other rules are:
•Children must be 3 years old to tube.
•Children 12 and under must take a life-jacket.
•Children must be at least 42" tall to do the waterslide.
•Picnic areas are for paying customers only. They are available on a first come, first served basis.
•To get the group rate, a party must pay together in one payment.

I was concerned about it being cold, too, but it was comfortable. The tube keeps you out of the water until it dips and fills with some, but it is refreshing as others have answered. Even when you have to get unstuck, you welcome some "Cool down".

where did you park along poplar stump road. im going to try my 1st time trout fishing and am bringing my 6 year old. I was wondering if this spot was safe to park and walk down to.

Sorry............I'm not sure where poplar stump road is. We used public parking lots when we were there. $5.00/day.
Would it be too cold to go tubing in the middle of March?

The water is always cool since its mountain water so it depends on outside temperature.

Are dogs allowed on the river

Dogs are allowed. I would recommend one per person unless you are certain they will love it. Many were having trouble with two small dogs. One had a separate tube for a larger dog, but dog wanted to be in same tube. You can get in water under the Main St. bridge (dog friendly town) to see if they're O.K. with the idea. Otherwise, it will diminish your own river fun if "Fido isn't fond" of it. (especially when you're getting unstuck from rocks)
