‪More than 70 years ago, the small Victorian community of Lake Boga kept secret a high security Air Force base, that housed and repaired many of the Royal Australian Air Force planes and American Navy Catalina "flying boats".

The base was a safe haven for the small number of flying boats that escaped the bombing of Broome and would eventually be the starting point for crews who would fly long, slow sorties, to mine Japanese held harbours in the Pacific.

A monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved out the front of the museum... it's worthy of a stop to read about it. The obelisk stands on top of a WWII water anchor that Catalinas would have once been tied to.‬
