I have only been here for a work event. We did a team-building event. They took a kid's building area and made a really fun adult team building place. We were set up in teams and had to build a structure using items they have in the area. There was also food and drinks. It was a very unique and fun experience. we had time to look around the majority of the museum and it would be really fun for families to visit during the normal hours.

The children’s museum was the perfect recommendation from one of our friends who lives in the area. Our girls absolutely LOVED the floors upon floors of interactive hands-on exhibits. Museum is large enough where no one area felt over-crowded and diverse enough to hold interest of our young ones. We highly recommend this museum and look forward to a return visit during our next trip to Chicago!!!

We went to celebrate my four year old grandsons birthday.
Great hands on fun. He was exhausted by time we left.
There were a few things we felt we would let him experience when he was older.

We visited the museum on a Thursday night to play late (4-8). The value was amazing, $20 for a family of four verses the regular admission price of $19/per person. My 7 year old enjoyed all the choices, including the water play and fire house play area. It was clean and staffed well, staff even engaged with children. Would highly recommend for families with younger children!

Our nearly 4 year old grandson had lovely time. He loved the fire department plus dinosaur bone find, Skittles, construction with wood and the big meccano. We had a nice 3 hour visit and so much to do for all ages. Great location too to do anything needed on Navy Pier.

I will start by saying we travel to Indianapolis every year specifically to go to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. It is ranked #1 in the country as far as children's museums go. There's a reason. Indianapoliis an actual museum, geared toward children. The Chicago Children's Museum is themed play areas.
Our children, 7 and 4.5, did enjoy the Chicago Children's Museum, because they enjoyed playing. Our 7 year old liked waterways the best, and the 4.5 year old liked climbing in Cloud Burst the best. We left after 4 hours, including a lunch break at McDonald's (no one checked our bands when we reentered.)
I had purchased admission on groupon through go city, and prepaid parking in the west garage.
It was a nice time, but the kids said they didn't like it as much as Indianapolis.

As soon as my 5-year old granddaughter started exploring the web site for the Children’s Museum, she decided she wanted to go there on our upcoming trip to Chicago. We ended up spending the entire day there, breaking only for lunch in the attached mall.
The Museum appeals to a wide variety of ages- some areas are meant only for babies not yet walking and others allow kids to build complex skyscrapers and other construction projects. My granddaughter spent most of her time in 3 areas: Kids’ Town (grocery store, construction zone, car wash/gas station, bus, etc.), a water play area with a large table of running water, systems of pipes you can change, boats and rubber ducks you can float, and buckets operated by pulleys, and an area meant to look like the outdoors with places to climb. Warning on the water area: use one of the plastic aprons hanging in the area; I didn’t and my granddaughter’s shirt got soaked! She also like done exhibit, which may be temporary, which involved flinging foam-rubber hot dogs through hoops using a catapult.
There are also rooms you can use to help calm down an over-stimulated child and even noise cancelling head phones for kids who are overwhelmed by the sounds. There are even plaques explaining to the parents how kids learn from various exhibits. I noticed that when we returned to some of the exhibits, my granddaughter would try something different.
The Museum is in a mall with many choices for meals before, after or in the middle of your Museum visit.
We loved this place and we'll be back!

We went when we were at Navy Pier. I didn’t even know there was a children’s museum there beforehand.
They have this incredible jungle gym/playground you can see from the main concourse of the inside of the pier, my kids HAD to go in! Sadly, that is a new structure that is not opened yet!
Once we saw that I looked around and thought, oh well, this was a waste, this is a kiddy museum. But, it really wasn’t. My kids had a blast and 2 hours was not enough. The reason is they have a wood shop and art studio that your kids can really lose themselves in. The displays are pretty kiddy, but these activities my older kids loved!

There was not a ton to do, but my 4 year old did enjoy it. She was done with it in about 2 hours. We went on a discount day. I would not pay full price to go.

I have grandkids from 11 years old to 5 years old? Are they too old for this museum?

The 5 year old for sure and probably the 11 year old as well will be absolutely delighted with the "water room"--I call it. The kids put on yellow rain slickers and "play" with water wheels, water falls, every kind of water play you can imagine. I love to just watch the kids because of course they can't refrain from giving their sister a squirt. It's all great fun and they are covered so can splash to their hearts content.
Of course some areas like shopping in the grocery store will be most appealing to the younger kids, but there is plenty of options for the older kids while the little ones shop.
My sister taught first grade for 36 years (I taught Jr. College), so I have gone with her students an many field trips. The Children's Museum at Navy Pier would host us by ourselves to check things out.
There is another fabulous Children's Museum in the far north suburbs, but if you are staying downtown, this Navy Pier Children's Museum will be great for the children whose ages you mentioned--and I think the adults will have a good time watching the kids and they adventure to learn new things. Have Fun!! Elizabeth (I can look out my window and see you there at Navy Pier. Be sure to wave at me--Ha!)
Do they have a coat check? How much does it cost?

They have a coat room where you just hang up your coat. No attendant, no charge.

Hello.
How long would you recommend we will need? I have a 7, 10 and 12 yr old.
What other attractions do you recommend?
Thnx Lisa.

I think 2-3 hours is plenty of time. Especially with the older kids, they move through activities faster than toddlers. I think we were there an hour and a half with our 3 year old and we ended up cajoling her to leave. The museum is on Navy Pier and there are lots of things to look at there. Carnival rides, a lot of good restaurants, boat rides.

Did they have a place to store strollers?
GramCPA
شيكاغو, إلينوي2,735 مساهمة
There is also a big room where you can park the stroller/gear. It's not supervised/locked if that matters to you. Keep in mind also that the staff can/will grab your stroller and put it in this big room if there are too many near the door or you are blocking the walkways so look there first if you happen to "lose" your stroller. Have fun!
