I'll never forget the first time I listened to a concert in Chicago's Orchestra Hall. It was Andre Segovia, the incomparable Spanish guitarist, and the hall lived up to its billing as an acoustical marvel, the finest complex of its kind this side of Salt Lake City's Mormon Tabernacle. Located at 220 South Michigan Avenue, Orchestra Hall was built in 1904. Designed by renowned Chicago architect Daniel Burnham, the elegant 2,522-seat venue was earmarked as a home for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which had previously performed in the larger Auditorium Theater. Today, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is universally regarded as one of the premier symphony orchestras in the world and Orchestra Hall is part of a music complex that also includes Buntrock Hall, a rehearsal and performance space, Grainger Ballroom and Opus restaurant and cafe. From 1907 to 1996, the ninth-floor penthouse served as the home of the Cliff Dwellers Club. Aside from musical concerts and piano recitals, the hall also has hosted lectures by such notables as Harry Houdini, Amelia Earhart, Bertrand Russell and Orson Welles. Season tickets are as cherished as as hard to obtain as the Cubs, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks. Orchestra Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994.

The Symphony Center is spotless, bright, and elegant. The Chicago Orchestra is outstanding. The show was fun, educational (for those with little classical music background), and brought a smile to everyone watching. Worth the price!

It's really impossible to overestimate the greatest cultural impact of Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Center on the cultural life of this vibrant city.
Long time ago, we saw the legendary Daniel Barenboim conducting and - at the same time! - performing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. You never forget events like this. The audience was breathless.
The upcoming year 2020 is going to be culturally very memorable for Symphony Orchestra, performing various concerts and series to commemorate the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, and the orchestra itself is going to celebrate its 130th Anniversary. What a year for classical music! What a year for Chicago Symphony Orchestra and for its guests, performers, supporters - for everybody in the world.
The building of Symphony Center (opened in 1997) is very impressive, it has an additional rehearsal space, a nice restaurant, and also an interactive education center.
Symphony Center - Chicago Symphony Orchestra is located in the Loop area of the city, at 220 S Michigan Ave - in the center of many cultural activities, that attract visitors from all over the world.

We visited the Symphony Center to see the Holiday Symphony Matinee. The hall is beautiful and the matinee was wonderful. The seats are roomy and comfortable and views of the stage appear to be wonderful regardless of where you’re seated. A fantastic experience all around.

My wife and I attended the Merry, Merry Chicago performance and loved it. This was our first time here and we ended up having seats in the upper balcony, which turned out to be really nice. I can't see there being any bad seats in the theater. We did attend the matinee, which usually means there will be smaller children, etc, but that was more than ok with us. It was nice to see people of all ages there and experiencing such a wonderful performance. I would recommend arriving about 30 minutes prior to the start time to allow for checking coats, finding your seats, etc.

My host suggested a Friday afternoon program and it was superb. We are both musicians and the 5th row ,center suited us fine. Tickets were $45.00. What a treat...
And a powerful programs of Prokofiev, Overture on Hebrew Themes- Mendelssohn, Piano Concerto #1Sunwook Kim..(powerhouse performance).and another surprise -Lutoslawski, Concerto for Orchestra.Guest conductor Kirill Karabits..fireball of energy. A 12:15 talk illuminated the program in a unique way in that we learned that the McCormick building a block away, home of our host ,once housed as a guest, on repeated occasions , Prokofiev, in the early 20 th century. The hall has been remodeled and felt updated sophistication with softer gold lights. It had been years since I had been in it, but the acoustics are still amazing..Seating space has been added behind the orchestra

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is one of the greatest orchestras in the world. Everytime I visit Chicago I make it a point to attend one of their concerts. Recently, I heard Vivaldi's Four Seasons paired with Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Those string players were Hot!! Nothing sleepy about 'long hair' music.

Are taxi/cab services easy to obtain for post-performances at the Symphony Center? Will the symphony center staff assist in hailing cab during the evening?

Have observed many inquires regarding restaurants around Symphony Center, The Art Institute, and other Michigan Avenue
venues. There are ample upscale restaurants in the area. The Symphony complex has one, there's also Russian Tea Room,
and hotel dining services. Best recommendation for comfort food at a reasonable price (by Chicago standards) is located on State street, the first building immediately south of the Palmer House hotel. Called, BEEF & BRANDY, street level floor. Lower level is their college age hangout, not for sophisticated ears. Point of Interest: Believe downtown Colleges and Universities have a student population of approximately 60,000, many reside in dormitories located in south loop area. Reminds one of Boston.
Back to food, Macy's State street has several delightful eateries.
Check 7th floor or lower level. Express elevator from street level
to 7th, which includes the famous Walnut Room. Lower level features full meal quasi cafeteria service, along with deli items and light sandwich options, plus a Starbucks coffee shop. Therefore, when visiting and attending the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra (CSO to the locals), don't go hungry, and enjoy the
concert.
