I have been going to this place since they opened at their Sycamore location. I have visited the Dekalb location many times and stopped for beer to go. I have also purchased packaged goods at the local stores.
Why did I do that? Because it was a local brewery. To be honest the beer is ok. No food, but some fun activities there from time to time. So, since it was local, I went back time and again to support them.
Recently, our region was locked down do to Covid and they decided to post on Facebook that they were open, no matter what and you can wear masks or not. I won't step back into this place again.

We were in town visiting family, and we needed an escape. You know how that goes!
I saw this place on line, read the beer menu and had to come!
We had 8 different beer and each was amazing! My favorite was the Forge Fest and Black Mamba! I wish I didn't live so far away or else I'd be back every weekend!
Keep up the good work!

We stopped when in town for other purposes because we like to check out breweries - large and small. This one definitely fell on the small side. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You can tell it is a small craft brewery with no frills. The bar in the location that we visited was small -- like maybe 8-10 seats. There were a few communal tables and games that you can indulge in. It felt like it was an adolescent in puberty. Good things to come, but you gotta get through that awkward stage. The beer here was good. Not super outta this world creative, but good. I definitely say they are on the right track and have great things in their future.

A cozy informal friendly place to have great beer. This place has a board full of beers to choose from. Everything from the Quiet Man Irish Red to my new favorite Black Mamba, a coffee/ cherry stout that goes down easily.
A few IPA's and even root beer are here. Barrel aged beers,Hefeweisse, Pale Ale, Oatmeal stout. I suggest you try a flight and pick your favorite.

It's been fun watching the Forge go from a place with mostly not especially good beers to now having two locations, one of which serves a wide variety of really great brews. Their best beer used to be "Yellow Star", a weak IPA with maybe a weirdly vaguely anti-semitic sounding name, but even that brew was inconsistent from one visit to the next. Now they have a ton of great beer, including a really great coffee stout, a better than it needs to be red, and a fantastic hazy IPA called Hi-Lo. The joint in DeKalb, where I spent two nights last weekend (which actually full of highs and lows), is convivial with a shelf of games for people to play on wide, handsome tables. One of the nights we sat near a group of nerds playing Cards Against Whatsitcalled and they seemed to be having a great time. No food, but they let you order in from nearby 'straunts, even providing a handy little iPad to make it easy. We got food from Jamrah, the new Middle Eastern place in town which was delicious, but get this: they only sent one fork with the delivery guy, so Scott P and I had to share it while eating our hummus and shwarma. We pretended like it was okay, like it didn't bother us two adult men passing a plastic fork back and forth since we were in one of those "let's treasure life" moods for reasons I won't go into (the lo of the hi-lo weekend) but it was nevertheless awkward. Still, none of that was The Forge's fault and I'm glad they hung on back when they weren't that good and very glad they got so much better.
