We totally enjoyed the dinner and experience of Giant City State Park. It is a must if you are in the area.

First time visitors and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we couldn't do all the hiking we wanted, as Mother Nature had other ideas, but we thoroughly enjoyed the trails we hiked; Trillium Trail, Giant City Trail, and a few others, but I can't remember the names. One was with the old stone fort wall. We also did the driving trail taking us to different areas. Also made a stop in the lodge. What a gorgeous building. Went in the visitors center twice and the employee/volunteer were very helpful. We also enjoyed reading all the info available there, which suggested other places in the area to explore - and we did.

I have been coming to Giant City all my life and it is a special place. It is especially beautiful in the fall season.
I have been riding horses here for a few years and always love it. Today was a little different. While the ride itself was fine, one of the ladies helping getting riders situated on the horses was very rude.
While getting lined up for the ride, she told me twice,”You’re the driver!” when I was having a little issue with my horse. It was in a very degrading tone and made me feel like a child. Although I don’t ride often, I have ridden several times. In fact, I have been here before.
She also told my grown son that he was choking his horse. Again, this was not his first time on a horse. Her tone was one of frustration. It could have really ruined our ride but we tried not to let it.
One of the ladies came over and was apologizing for the other ladies behavior and she was making excuses for her. She was very sweet and she felt bad for the way the other lady was speaking to us.
This will not stop me from riding here again but hopefully we won’t be spoken to this way the next time. It was a beautiful day to ride and other than that I enjoyed it very much.

I was so excited to learn our cabin was close to Giant City! I had been eager to see it so we took a hike - in the rain. And it was great! You can easily spend a day at this beautiful national park.

We needed a place to stay after visiting Branson, and found this nice park. This is an excellent place to hike through rocks and boulders. There are great cliffs and cool caves. It takes about a day to see most of it. Be prepared with good walking shoes.

Camp ground was very nice. The walking trails are great. Food at the lodge is great too. Very nice area. We really enjoyed the weekend

Pleasant little park in Southern Illinois. Had a few nice trails with beautiful views and neat rock faces. We found our selves acting like little kids climbing over rocks.

Beautiful park, interesting trails. We hiked the Giant City, Trillium, Devil's Standtable, & Indian Creek Shelter Trails. A very enjoyable visit. You can watch our videos from here on YouTube (Day Hiking Duo)

Well marked trails. Beautiful rock formations. Stop at the visitor center. They made great recs as to what type of hike I wanted to do. Gorgeous surroundings. Would def cone back here and hike more. The cabins in the park look nice from the outside. A def come here and come back!!

This is a beautiful park for hiking. Each trail offers something different. It is well worth the visit!

We just went last weekend and even though it was cold it wasn’t wet. We still very much enjoyed our hike.

Can I plan a two day meeting with 10 single rooms and a meeting room for february 21-22 for 10 people with food /bev and a/v? the web site and the phone number doesn't allow me or I am not savey enough to figure it out. lol

Is there a mountain, or something you can climb? Preferably one with boulders (to climb) as opposed to a simple hiking trail?

no mountain, but many sandstone cliffs along a river valley..... back in the day, like in the 80's, giant city was a rappelling destination, but not sure nowadays..... prolly better to make the relatively short trek to little grand canyon, where there are more aggressive trails.... hope this helps...happy trails!!
Are the cabins pet friendly ? are dogs allowed?

We never RV camped at Giant City State Park. We did camp at Little Grassy Lake Campground, which is about twenty minutes from Giant City. We have a 30ft 5th wheel, and we had no problems finding a spot there. You can see my review on Little Grassy Lake on Tripadvisor.

HI! Looking for someone who has been camping in the park.....we travel in an rv but do not pull a car. Our activities need to be within walking distance of the rv. Can we walk the paddleboards from the campgrounds to the lake access? Are the hiking trails close to the campsites? Any help is appreciated :)

I'm not sure exactly where the campground area is, but the hiking trails were spread pretty fair apart. The welcome center was a couple miles from the trails too.

We are planning a visit to Giant City State Park in September. Traveling with two teens we are looking for some action. Do you have any idea if there is a place to rent canoes or bikes nearby? I have searched the web with no luck. Any other activities you can suggest? How about restaurants and a place to lodge?
Any suggestions and comments are welcome!

Giant City State park has it's own lodge and cabins.
I suggest zip lining at Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour . The tour is 3.5 hrs with only shirt hikes.

I ride daily, but could not recommend riding bikes in the Makanda area. The roads are all winding cow paths, just like the hills of Kentucky or Tennessee. The roads are not like those of the flatlands in Central & Northern Illinois.
