cette visite finissait notre circuit Franck Llyod Wright organisée par nos soins. Nous avions déjà entendu les guides de Taliesin et Rookery et étions donc bien familiarisés avec la pensée architecturale de F.L. Wright. La visite du studio et de sa maison familiale avec sa première femme me donnent la même impression qu'à Taliesin, impossible de venir avec des enfants (interdit de toucher les murs, le mobilier et tout est étroit) ou avec une mobilité réduite (demi étages, marches). La visite en plein air avec audio guide des extérieurs des maisons aux alentours est agréable. Allez aussi au petit parc (pas indiqué dans l'audio-guide) pour allonger la ballade.

This is the home of the famous architect Frank Lloyd wright , that designed many of the private houses in this beautiful Oak Park neighborhood of Chicago . Very recommended to take a walk through this great streets of Oak Park.

Fue muy emocionante poder visitar la casa de uno de mis arquitectos favoritos y disfrutar de las excelentes explicaciones de guía.
Mis ojos no paraban de captar la esencia de todos los detalles que FLW iría incorporando en tantas de sus otras obras, que por cierto, Oak Park está lleno de ellas, por lo que combina esta visita con un paseo por el barrio.

Absolutely fantastic!! I thought I knew about FLW but learned so much! Toured this as well as the temple which was in walking distance and seeing all three was a rich experience. The 3D submersion into his “art work” was beyond compare and far exceeded a photographic image. It’s a “must do” for sure!! (Walking the neighborhood right around the house on Forest St really added to the trip as well) Loved Molly for a guide! Seek her out!

We just visited the beautiful gift shop of the house , which by itself is a masterpiece of architecture.
Take an hour walk through this beautiful neighborhood, where many of his works can be identified.

A great example of his work. The tour was excellent and you can take as many pictures as you would like to, unlike other FLW homes.

We are not architecture geeks, but we loved this tour. We had a wonderful tour guide (it was only her third tour!) who had clearly educated herself about the architect, architecture, design, history, and the community of Oak Park, and so was able to really communicate to us the genius of Wright himself.
I had no idea that this important piece of architecture had fallen on hard times, so to speak. The house itself had been divided into individual apartments and it took a decade for it to be painstakingly restored.
Much of the original wall murals, for example, were uncovered, and some of the original furnishings found. The layout and other elements were restored to a particular time in the home's history.
Our guide explained to us the reasons behind his material choices (some practical, some philosophical) and design elements. It really gave me an insight into the man, the architect, and to reasons why it was so important to save this particular piece of architectural history.

We had an very interesting guided tour with an excellent guide. We learned a lot and the hour through the house just boast away.

My friend and I toured Frank Lloyd Wright’s home in April 2023 and we enjoyed every minute of it. John is an awesome guide who clearly loves his job. He basically bursts at the seams with information about Frank Lloyd Wright and this home from all the research he’s done. And his background in interior design makes him that much more interesting. Thank you, John!!!

Podés ir en la Green line (la línea verde del metro) o con algún tour arquitectónico del Centro de Arquitectura de Chicago.
Se puede comprar ahí mismo la entrada. Te dan para el turno siguiente. No hay que esperar mucho, hay muchos turnos en el día.

Yes. There are locked storage areas where luggage and back packs can be stored.

Yes, we visited on a Saturday morning of a holiday weekend and no issues. As the day got later was much harder to find parking. Visit in the morning is my suggestion!

Hi,
I was wondering the best time to buy tickets for the FLW combination tour PLUS, getting there from downtown Chicago, on the Green Line. I see it's easy to get the green line, but my concern is how much time should I allow for the trip on the train PLUS walking. I am also confused as to which is the best station to get off. I was hoping you could give me some tips, since you were there recently. Thank you very much! It sounds marvelous.

I forget the station name, but the ride on the train takes about 35 minutes and the walk from the station to the house is about another 10-15 minutes. We bought tickets there--it was very easy to do.

The 'el' Blue Line goes to Oak Park from downtown, getting off at Harlem Avenue. but the studio is about a mile or so from the subway station. Either a healthy walk or a short uber ride away.

Trying to figure out what the Frank Lloyd Wright home and Studio have to do with restaurants and Disney characters............. And there isn't a cafeteria in the FLLW Home......

Yes to O'Hare
Visit his personal house at Oak Park, (arrange tour would be best) then walk the street with all of his houses - a lovely way to spend an hour or so in the fresh air.
Coffee or lunch at Hemmingways Restaurant (nearby the house where Ernest Hemingway lived - another worthwhile visit) Note the different spelling - a bit of history to chase down
I would stay at hotels along the Magic Mile, north of the river, Hyatt etc . (downtown, and lovely for walking)
Unfortunately I had a car and we drove all over the area, so I cannot assist with alternative transport to Lloyd Wright area of Oak Park
