It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it’s easy to access by car. The short 1/3 mike hike is worth every step. The bridge is also easy accessible. Photo opportunities are great.

The bridge itself cannot be seen from the road or the parking lot, you have to drive down a sketchy road for a couple of miles, park, then hike for about ten minutes but it really isn't too bad. If you are handicapped, this may not be for you. The bridge is quite scenic and nice to see. The trail is a loop trail but when I was there there was a sharp drop off so I turned around and went out the way I came in. No charge.

If you have visited the more celebrated Natural Bridge in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, the 215-foot-tall National Historic Landmark that once was surveyed by George Washington and is located on land once owned by Thomas Jefferson, you probably are less impressed by the Pomona Natural Land Bridge in Pomona, Illinois. Located in the Shawnee National Forest, the Pomona bridge is 90 feet long and eight feet wide at its widest point. It is only 30 feet tall at one end and about 20 to 25 feet tall at the other. Being made entirely of sandstone, the Pomona bridge is the result of millions of years of erosion. But you can walk across the Pomona Bridge. The Natural Bridge in Virginia is open only to vehicular traffic on Route 11, the state highway that crosses the span. The Pomona bridge can be accessed via a quick hike for all ages. It is a 15 to 30-minute drive from Carbondale, Cobden, Anna-Jonesboro, Alto Pass and Murphysboro. The short, 1/3-mile loop trail winds through a mature oak, hickory and beech forest and an overlook reveals a view of the arch or bridge. From Murphysboro, take Highway 127 south 10 miles to Pomona Road. Go west 7/10 of a mile to Natural Bridge Road, turn north (right) and continue two miles to the Y in the road. Veer left onto Recreation Entrance Road and continue a quarter-mile to the trailhead parking lot. Caution: Be alert for venomous snakes and poison ivy. And rock and dirt surfaces can be slippery when wet. Suggestion: Bring bug spray.

It's a very short hike. Pretty cool natural bridge! It's at the very end of the road. Little Grand canyon trail in about 3-5 miles away. And Cedar Lake trail head. So good to combine these shirt hikes

It was a cool morning and sunny. We went looking for the bridge and thought we made a wrong turn. So don’t turn back, it’s just up ahead — really. We were amazed by the view and the structure. We climbed over to it, with bad knees and all. I stayed at the end, but my husband went right out to the middle. There’s a lot to see, climb, and a photographer’s photo op. This was in November, 2018. The box below doesn’t go back that far.

There is a 3 mile drive on a gravel road, then a short walk, the trail takes you to the bridge and you actually walk across the bridge.

The Natural Bridge was very neat to see and walk across and under. The trail was clear and safe. The rock formations were beautiful and to hear the water trickling was very relaxing.

Went here today on a beautiful winter day (but 68 degrees). Despite it not being green yet, it was a great little adventure with the family. Took less than an hour to walk to the bridge, explore and do the small loop hike. It would be difficult for anyone with walking limitations (steep, slick in this weather, muddy).

This was a nice, short hike and really beautiful. The trail on the other side of the bridge was not hikeable due to a LOT of downed trees.

I think the gravel road was tougher on our car than the hike was on our bodies. (We are 62 yrs old and are *not* hikers. This one is easy! )
The hike is a loop. We approached from the left side of the loop. We were happy we'd chosen that side because it's the better view of the bridge. Due to recent rains making the bridge portion of the trail slippery, we did not cross the bridge. But we still got the great view having come from the left side. I would bring kids, but definitely hold their hands if you take them across. Oh!~~also bring whatever you use for insect repellent. You'll be walking in the forest. If you do need a rest, there's a lookout spot with a bench about half way to the bridge on the left approach.

I am new in the area, so I am looking for anything in the area that I can see along with the Pomona bridge

Pomona Winery is just down the road from the bridge. The Little Grand Canyon is close also, as well as a bunch of hiking trails in Shawnee National Forest. Garden of the Gods is excellent, but it would be almost a two-hour drive, if I remember correctly as Pomona Natural Bridge is in the west part of the national forest while Garden of the Gods is in the east section.
