Attractions in your area are often visited less, so after more than 20 years living in the neighborhood I went to the Broekerveiling. Highly recommended. A small museum, a cruise through the 1000 island kingdom with personal explanations (so no band like on many tour boats) and actively participating in an auction. Also for children very nice to do.

Very informative attraction. Allow at least 3-4 hours to absorb all the museum information, auction house experience, & 45 minute restored electrified boat ride around the area.

Very nice atmosphere and good explanation / presentation. The ladies who held the auction provided a real experience. Piece of history and join the auction. Cruise with good guide, all in all a nice afternoon out!

Nicer than expected. Broeker auction is a fairly large complex with a multitude of attractions, of which the auction and the boat trip are the most important, but also an eel smoker and a blacksmith and his work are interesting.

We arrived at 12.30pm, just in time for the 1pm auction and 2pm cruise. Both were interesting: at the auction you experience for yourself how bidding works with discount and auction, and at the tour (in a covered boat) you learn more about the history of the country. Both are presented humorously. Too bad the fish smokehouse couldn't be found.

We visited the BroekerVeiling last week. I had been here once in my childhood, but I think that was about 20 years ago...
Nice to be back here again. The area is a lot more built up than I can remember.
Then the museum itself. The friendly lady at the checkout helped us get started. We arrived around 10.30 am, unfortunately the next auction was only at 1 pm and the boat tour at 2 pm due to... maintenance. Well, we'll see how we manage our time. You can also leave the site to go to the adjacent shopping center, for example.
In any case: visited two exhibitions, in addition, the upper part of the exhibition was closed due to... renovation. So after 30 minutes we walked outside. The petting zoo consisted only of birds (nice to look at), the forge was open but you could only walk into it a short distance and the building next to it was not accessible to the public.
We entered the large boathouse via a side entrance. There were about 50 French people who apparently had rented the auction for themselves. We walked in the opposite direction to the start of the boathouse. There is an exhibition about the ditch and its usefulness, but hard work was also being done there and not everything could be viewed without getting in the way of the builders/employees.
We also visited the restaurant / self-service buffet, the employee tried to convince us about six times to have pastries, even though we indicated that we did not appreciate it.
And then it's 12 o'clock and you've seen everything. So we headed to the shopping center, had a sandwich and returned at 1 p.m. for the auction. This is nicely set up with an older lady as the auctioneer and a young woman who plays the vegetable seller. The duo plays nicely with the audience, a bit of English (and sometimes German) is thrown in, but the jokes are especially fun for people who also speak Dutch.
The auction is running a bit late, so we can go to the boat for the tour around 1:45 PM. Unlike most of the museum, this is really worth it. The captain, who is also a guide, knows how to keep your attention with the necessary wit. We can appreciate that the local seniors' club with red hats has to pay the price every now and then :)
Facts about birds alternate with which varieties of chips are made in the nearby factory. The hour flies (or sails?) by. Compliments to the captain, he managed to keep this museum from failing.
All in all not recommended.

Get a good impression of how the vegetable auctions went here. Get a perfect impression of what happened in the kingdom of the 1000 islands, with the sale of vegetables.
This is all brought to life in the auction building, with a very pleasant explanation.

Bij de entreeprijs zat een leerzame rondvaart en een erg gezellige uitleg & deelname!! aan een groentenveiling! We hebben zelf ook gekozen om de twee uur eigen rondvaart met een fluisterbootje door het Rijk der Duizend Eilanden.

A hidden gem! This museum is tucked away in a small town and yet is packed with history and engaging experiences. Not at all crowded when we went. The exhibits and space itself are interesting and described well in the free English audio tour. Ticket includes a boat trip and an actual auction. The boat trip was beautiful and informative, sharing a lot about land reclamation and farming in the area. Tour in multiple languages. The auction was fascinating.... Much was in Dutch (unfortunate for us), but there was enough English for us to follow along with the highlights. If you have kids, they will enjoy the experience although you might discover you've purchased various vegetables if they are eager button-pushers! Overall, one of our more unusual and fascinating experiences in the Netherlands.

This museum wasn't in our guide book but we are so glad we went. It was a pleasant cycle from Alkmaar via cycle paths.
It's a fascinating area and story of the history of the area and the auction house.
The boat trip included in the entry ticket was a highlight for us.
The auction happens in Dutch (we are in the Netherlands after all!) but enough is explained in English so we could follow it too.
The museum is beautifully presented and the staff were super helpful. Highly recommended for a different place to visit and to learn about a very special history. The film shown at the start of your visit is also beautifully created.
