‪Great time with the grand kids on the Polar Expres‬

‪We took our grandkids (age 4 & 2) on the Polar Express ride. We had first class tickets in the domed rail car. We had a table for four. Our tickets included the hot chocolate and a cookie. The actors portraying the characters from the movie did an excellent job. The elves and the conductor interacted with our 4 yr old grand daughter. Before the ride was over our grand daughter was singing and dancing with the elves and even the conductor got in on some dancing. This was a memorable experience with our grandkids and they enjoyed it. Santa stopped by for a picture and gave each of us a bell. We would definitely book this again. Our stay at the West Baden hotel made our trip even more enjoyable.‬

‪Lackluster Polar Express‬

‪I have always heard amazing things about the Polar Express in French Lick, and I am all about Christmas magic and creating memories for our two toddlers. With that said, maybe my hopes were set too high for our ride. Everything in our experience was underwhelming. The waiting area/shop, where we were told to spend time for one hour prior to our train ride, were cramped and lacked entertainment for children. The train car's decorations were lackluster. The two "elves" we had in our car were polite young women (definitely no older than high school), but they did not know their choreography and seemed embarrassed to sing the Christmas carols out loud. Santa walked through the car to take one photo per family but did not even say "hello" to our children while he was taking a photo with them. He just handed them a bell, smiled for the photo op, and moved on. The scenery outside of the train ride was mostly the back of houses, abandoned toys in back yards, and a few minutes through the woods. The scene they had set up to look like the North Pole did look very nice, and our children were so excited! All in all, I believe our kids had fun which is the most important thing to me. However for the price and hype, I had expected a much more magical experience.‬

‪Outstanding Polar Express ride‬

‪I can see why the other reviewers were disappointed because "scenic" is not what I would call the environment of these tracks. However, when the scenery is inside the train, as it was during the Polar Express ride, the experience was top notch.

-The train station was very well organized considering the masses of people there
-The actors were very good singers and dancers and never went out of character the entire ride
-The "Santa's Village" was well constructed and my kids liked that they visited the North Pole
-The pricing is reasonable considering the length of time and the goodies you get.

I don't have an opinion during the rest of the year, but the Polar Express experience is well worth it.‬

‪The train ride was enjoyable. The dinosaur experience was not so enjoyable. There were inflatable dinosaurs and then face painting and games. It was a dinosaur themed event but that is about it. Very disappointing.‬

‪Don't waste your money!‬

‪First of all, if all the cars are not air-conditioned, don't have the train leaving at 1:00 p.m. Masks were required . . . always a disappointment. I would not call this a scenic train trip at all! The round trip was 90 minutes, but the second half was a return trip of the same trees, etc. Apparently there was a log cabin and waterfall. I saw neither one. They were sure to point out a house in the beginning of the trip where Larry Bird grew up. His family no longer lives there. We stayed an extra day in French Lick because they were no longer doing the Thursday trip and we had to wait until Saturday. If I had know it was going to be such a disappointment, we would have never spent the money or wasted the time and headed home early. Definitely take a pass!‬

‪Don't waste your time. Not scenic at all.‬

‪I would never label this a scenic railway. This is a big stretch and I mean big! The ride is 45 minutes one way and the the train goes back to the starting point for the next 45 minutes.
The only thing they point out is an old log home, a small lake and a very small (blink and you'll miss it, literally)waterfall.
The rest of the trip all you see are trees...for 90 minutes!
In addition, they only do train rides at 1 p.m., the hottest part of the day and only 1 or 2 cars have a/c. The tickets for the a/c cars were $120 per table. There were only 2 of us and I'm so very glad we did not spend $120 to look at trees for 90 minutes!

‪Not much to see‬

‪I wouldn't describe this train ride as scenic. For the most part you'll be looking at dense trees, junk yards, and dilapidated trailers/ homes. No pretty views. There's a 1850's cabin that they advertise you'll see but during the summer months you'll have to look thru the tree branches to see it. The tunnel was the neatest part. It brought a cool breeze to a hot day. The regular coach cars do not have air conditioning. The windows are open so you'll feel a breeze. You'll also be required to wear masks during the duration of the ride and even outside on the platform. The ride was neat to experience a little bit of history, but otherwise wouldn't go again. ‬

‪Pass this one up‬

‪This was possibly the worst scenic train ride I have ever taken. I have ridden trains from Alaska to St Kitts and this one was terrible. The ride was about 45 minutes long one way then it backed down the same route for about 45 more minutes. Chose your seats wisely because you will see the same sights going and coming.
The staff was sometimes rude and not very pleasant to be around.
I can not recommend this train ride‬

‪We enjoyed it other than being annoyed at other passengers. They were still asking people to wear a mask and a few people completely ignored it. One woman stood in the aisle within a foot of us wanting to be seen until the train started moving without a mask on. Mask mandate wasn't enforced. There's a long tunnel that they pass through twice and its totally dark. The guide was very informative.‬

‪A Quaint ride through the hills‬

‪My son and I love trains so we knew we would be taking this train ride. We had a really nice time, but then again we like trains. The "outlaw" ambush at the half-way point was cute if a bit cheesy, but still quite entertaining. As with most trains, I would certainly recommend the air-conditioned car on hot (or windless) days. In the open cars it can get a bit warm and without a breeze you'll catch the hint of diesel fumes from time to time. All in all, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours.‬
