Really impressed by knowledge of the friendly staff. Displays include functioning “reed” loom, period display of local department store, and antique rifle collection.

I appreciate a museum that is a museum and not just a warehouse of local leftovers. This museum does it so well for a community museum. It features the artwork of local artists, furniture from bygone furniture makers and is a good look at the rural Indiana past. What really makes this museum excel is that they feature rotating collections of materials not owned by the museum as well as rotating collections and displays featuring local families. Thus, displays stay fresh for return visits. The museum also presents programs and invites expert speakers to discuss historical topics.
There is a nice bookstore in the entrance and admission is free, although donations are always suggested. Museums usually operate on donations. This one is well worth the time and a donation.

Housed in an old Kroger building, the facade belies the exhibits you'll experience within; they've done a remarkable job of creating exhibits that directly connect with the area's history and legacy. The interior is modern, well lighted and spacious, with room enough to house various collections, which are well documented and displayed. The Museum has a great gift shop which includes unique items, along with pottery, jewelry and art. The Putnam County Museum is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Or two!

Well lit and many exhales to look over with changes all the time to keep it refreshed for your next visit. Helpful staff and volunteers. Lighting is goo and always plenty of parking. If you haven't been there lately now is a good time to go.
