What a wonderful discovery. Small art museum with wonderful exhibits. A lot from local artists and students. Lafayette must have a thriving art scene as I was amazed at the variety of wonderful pieces. It’s free but make sure and donate. The staff is excellent and very friendly.

If I lived in West Lafayette I could see this being a frequent visit as new shows and galleries comes through. Not very big but clearly focused on quality local arts. It took us about an hour or so to see three galleries. There was another, but was temporarily closed at the time of our visit.

This was our first stop and was a very nice little place. The staff person was extremely friendly and it has a mix of new and old. We got through it in just under 40 min, but was a nice pit stop. It is also a free stop, we were amazed.

I've been to the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette several times over the years and their exhibits are thoughtful and creative. The family-friendly, two-floor facility is somewhat limited on space but when my daughter and I went last they had a great display of Indiana's T.C. Steele paintings (ironic since we had been to the Brown County Art Museum the previous year and no place could top it for T. C. Steele of course - see my previous review there).
There is adequate parking in the rear of the building along 10th Street, a little out of the way to get to if your from out of town. The building location limits future growth, but I recommend it for a short excursion into Indiana's fine arts, especially works of many media from local artists.

Every once in a while you run into a small museum that does everything right, and the AM of GL is one of those experiences.
We were happily surprised by a show of repurposed mannequins. It sounds trite but it was stunning, breakthrough work done by two local women, one of whom we met at the museum.
The staff is informative and friendly, and the gift shop is small, but has a remarkable number of interesting locally made objects and artwork.

The day I visited the museum only the two special exhibits were open, one on Twin Rocker paper and the other works by the artist Zimmer. These were exhibits that you wouldn't likely find in a big city art museum so I feel that the Lafayette museum provides insights that you can't find elsewhere. Looking forward to going back to experience the rest of the exhibits.

This is a pleasant little local art museum. Most paintings and other art objects follow a limited range of themes. Worth the admission price and a few minutes of your time.

I am still excited about the Art Museum's (of Greater Lafayette) trip to ArtPrize 8 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. AP8 was fantastic and amazing and exactly as advertised, but the trip organization, accommodations and purpose, all taken care of by the Art Museum, was really great. A perfect balance of alone time and group time; two excellent side-trips to compliment all the art ooogling; and an easy and comfy bus ride up and back. I would absolutely recommend visiting the Art Museum to not only see what exhibit/s they have hanging, but check out the classes they offer as well as any road trips planned.

During a visit to Lafayette decided to stop into the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. We arrived in the parking lot passing an beautiful old Mansion on the corner whose grand outdoors stairway opens up on the parking area. Imagination being that the museum and parking area was once part of the beautiful gardens of the mansion. Once inside the museums lower level has classrooms and exhibits of student work. Then a room with on the ground floor and two on the upper level. While we were there, the main exhibit was of Indiana artists work that had gone through judges. There was several very beautiful pieces. As we were leaving , we were approached by one of the employees who asked us what did we like most of the items on exhibit. We walked back into the exhibit hall and had a very nice discussion with her on the pieces we liked the most. We spent about hour and half, the museum is free and a great place to stop and enjoy the art.

I had not been to this museum for many years. I decided to visit it today. It was a nice little Museum. I'm glad that it was free because I would have been disappointed in its size had I needed to pay an admission fee.
It was nice to see the Indiana now exhibit. I liked learning about local artists. I did think that the placards next to the artwork were a little bit patronizing but I know that many schools in the area visit this Museum so maybe that is why?
