My husband and I went here over Memorial Day weekend. We walked the Horseshoe Bluff Nature trail, the Julien Dubuque Monument trail, and the E.B. Lyons Nature trail. All of the trails were well marked and very well maintained.

We had the pleasure of visiting on a morning after a fresh snowfall. The gate was closed but we parked and did the short hike up the hill. Beautiful view, and very peaceful. We had the pleasure of seeing several eagles soaring overhead.

We stopped to check out the monument and view and were glad we did. Beautiful area, especially in the Fall. The monument was just off the parking lot which made for an easy and quick visit. Definitely worth seeing.

Lovely drive through the park and view from Julien Dubuque's grave. Wish we would have had time for hiking!

At first I wasn’t sure what to expect but I did know I wanted a good view of the Mississippi. There was a lot to see at museum about the settling of Dubuque so glad we stopped there first and then went on a nice drive over to the “ mines of Spain” site. Very interesting area and some great view of the River

The place is curious, massive, and many wonderful hikes. The visitor center is well kept and informative

An assortment of easy hikes with some nice views of the river and cliffs. Nice way to stretch your legs and enjoy nature, even if you only have an hour or two. The short train to the Julien Dubuque monument from the parking lot is easily accessible and offered a nice view of the river. We also enjoyed other trails in the area that cut in and around the canyon.

We visited on a muggy/drizzly day, so we didn't feel secure enough to hike; however, we did walk down the path to the overlook and the burial monument - it's a very pretty view.

The Mines of Spain is about 2500 acre park and wildlife refuge. Clean, well marked and plenty of trails for all levels. Usually quiet there. Dog friendly and family friendly.

Nice photo op stop to see where Julien Dubuque first planted his feet and started the town. Lovely monument. Great view. Pretty park. Nice photos.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes. It is posted 'on leash', but many do not. When we walk with a dog, I call her to come when I see another person and leash her. She obeys so it is easy. Also, one should plan on cleaning up the dirty. Dogs love the area. But, as always, check for ticks afterwards.
