Average trip. We arrived at approximately 11 am and made our way towards the entrance of the museum to buy our admission tickets. We received a pamphlet that included information on the various aircraft’s and cars inside the museum. There was a section of the museum dedicated to Flight 232, that included a short video about the events that occurred that day, along with several pieces of memorabilia. The museum was on the smaller side, and there were not very many planes to view. There was a gift shop and restrooms near the entrance.
Tip: I recommend spending 45 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

Great place to learn a bit more about early and war time airplanes. Plus a display and memorial to the victims of flight 232 crash of 1989. Well worth the small entrance fee and a couple of hours.

There are lots of displays of local military service and air history. Also quite a nice display of the United Airlines 232 crash in Sioux City. There were a few annoyances of ladder, large table, large rack of chairs sitting here & there in front of displays. Also volume on movie didn’t work & had to go looking for someone to fix it.

To see the Midamerica Transportation Museum, you need to exit I-29 at the Sergeant Bluff exit and go west toward the Sioux City airport terminal. There are signs directing you north to the museum. To see everything, will take a couple of hours. The museum volunteers are knowledgeable and friendly. Do NOT miss the Flight 232 Crash display. There are cars, planes, and other modes of transportation too numerous to mention. A self guided tour is available which I recommend.

This is a great museum and we spent a couple hours just looking at all the interesting things they have here. The plane accident in Sioux city in 1989 we learned so much about that we had no idea. We were able to take our time it was a quiet place without a bunch of people crowding in. We enjoyed it one of the best we saw on our two month trip.

This museum has been around for a few years but could still be considered fairly new. I remember when it was first being established and know those in on that phase were dedicated to providing a quality experience. I have been here twice and enjoyed that it was not crowded either time.
When I go to places of this type, I prefer to explore on my own but like knowing someone is available if I have questions. I enjoy that about this museum.
If you are a visitor to the area, use your map app to direct you.
Specialized museums like this are, of course, best suited to people who are into its subject matter. I lived in Sioux City when UA Flight 232 crashed and was interested in that portion of the museum. If you are not into planes or air travel, this is not a must-see.

This is a relatively new meseum in the area, and since it is privately run, there is an entry fee. One of the museum personnel can usually be convinced to show you around. The museum is on the grounds of the Sioux City airport and the former World War II Air Corps Base used to train aviators. One enters in the gift shop (large selection of gifts available) that also houses a research library area dealing primarily with air travel. They have a wide range of artifacts from that time period, as well as World War I. There are race cars, ambulances, aircraft - including a Boeing cockpit that was used to film the TWA TV series. In fact, after wiring it with lights, etc., when it was returned, they donated the control panel for the lighting setup.
One of the highlights is the large collection of artifacts, photos & film concerning the crash of United Flight 232 that crashed on the airport grounds in the 1980's.

A great place to let young people see the progress aviation has made. There are many aircraft or parts of aircraft including planes and helicopters. There are other antiques such as cars, motorcycles, and buggies also.

This museum has a rich collection of war memorabilia, but because it is at the crash landing site of United 232, it has a strong collection of commercial airline items. The exhibit of the crash is both chilling and inspiring. There are also transportation items such as a DeLorean, a 1959 VW Bug and a 1900 hearse. Don't miss this!

This is a small museum with some interesting vehicles, not just planes. Displays were obviously not professionally done, but it has lots of interesting pieces. The area dedicated to the crash of flight 232 was nicely done and quite touching. Not a huge must see place, but for someone with an interest in transportation, a good way to spend a couple of hours. Those working there were very friendly and helpful.
