This building is a must see. Terra cotta detail alone is incredible. Add the backlit stain-glassed dome and windows, and the artwork, and this was one of the most enjoyable buildings I have ever viewed. A prairie school gem.

This building is a great example of the “Prairie” style. If you are around when the courthouse is open just step inside for a minute and look at the incredible detail work around the center atrium. If you are there when the courthouse is closed, just look up as you walk around the building again at the intricate architecture and up to the tower. Notice the unique outside lamp posts. Built in 1916, it is very artsy. It is well worth a quick visit.

Quite the structure and worth a 30 minute side tour if wandering around Sioux City, Iowa. Very impressive rotunda, marble floors, and detailed metal work throughout. Definitely preserved the original structure built in the early part of the 1900s.

We enjoyed walking around inside this building. It was quite pretty. We got some brochures about it that gave us some background on the 100 year old facility.

Proud of this place. Very cool building and well maintained. You go through security when you are in here - so be ready for that. Love going down here. Jury duty, turn in absentee ballots, or just look around...it is gorgeous.

The Woodbury County Courthouse is a treasure. It is supposedly the example of Prairie Architecture in the world. It was designed by Architect William L. Steele, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The outside is adorned with great carved panels over the entrances. Inside, intricate terra cotta designs adorn the large central area, topped by a stained glass dome. Painted murals line the upper level of the central area portraying a primitive court, urban life, rural life, & a tribute to World War I soldiers. In one corner is a display case with trophies won by the American Legion Monahan Post Band at international competitions at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The local County Board of Supervisors have been restoring the building for its 2018 Centennial, although a number of emergency repairs have also been necessary. It is a truly amazing sight for architecture fans; take time to see the details.

This courthouse is an amazing site to see. It is absolutely beautiful. If you like old buildings you will love this.

This building is a Sioux City gem The detail of this building inside and out is stunning. The frescoes on the walls are breath taking. And the marble floors and stairs are rich.
