Bar area looks like a holding pen for the Jeremy Kyle show, full of the local chavs all resplendent in their primark grey trakkies, all loud mouthed sweary council estate riff raff. Tried to make it my local but everytime I went there was a loud sweary group of locals in the lounge in the corner shouting and making a din, so much so it was hard to have a conversation with the person I was drinking with. The best way to sum it up is if you can imagine a council house full of chavs on a council estate selling beer, that's exactly what you get. Anyone can sell beer, making the pub a pleasant place to drink the beer in seems to be a problem

We are very disappointed by your comments. As you can see from other reviews, the pub has always been a very well run community hub and valued by our customers as such.

Just would like to say, what an amazing landlord Malcolm is.
Goes out your way to make you feel at home. His staff are amazing too
with a friendly and professional approach to customers.
The old pub is such a lovely warm and cosy place. The prices are
very good and what a choice. For sure one of my favourite places for
to spend a few hours. Keep up the great work.

Started using pub after lockdown. Take my Autistic son with us who loves it. I have never had the same pint more than twice , so much choice. Staff friendly, customers the same.

10 real ales & 4 ciders on our visit.
Pub was warm & cosy as fire was on.
Basic history of the pub, just lists licensees from 1864 onwards, but doesn’t really give much history.
Cobs available.

The Rising Sun is a great pub with a friendly crowd of regulars. It offers 10 real ales, 4 real ciders, wide choice of gins and freshly made cobs. The quality of the beer is kept in a top notch condition by the landlord Malcolm Roberts while his wife Julie and their staff make all of the customers feel really welcome. The pub is nicely decorated in a clean and tidy condition, there is a nice courtyard, Sky Sports in the bar/lounge/smoking shelter, dart board in the bar, separate dart room, domino team, singer on a Friday night and every other Saturday. This is a true local community pub which offers everything you would expect and more.

Called in recently to meet some Tipton Baggies. What a pub! Excellent selection of beers on tap and the regulars were incredibly friendly. I even managed to meet West Bromwich Albion legend Alec Jackson who uses the pub regularly. Lots of character to the pub and certainly worth a visit when in the Black Country.

10 ales & 4 ciders, they were nice.
Big crusty cobs, cheese & onion & ham & tomatoes. They were too hard & definitely too chewy. Don’t expect teeth to hurt when I finish eating a cob. Shame no salad with ham, just tomato.
Decent size rear back garden.
Left hand side room to main entrance was quieter than the bar area.
Annual race day to Chester on Sat 14 Sept 19, pub trip.
2 ladies toilets, hand dryer keeps cutting out which is a nuisance.
Music TV on, quite a low level, which was good.

A pub with lots of character, and full of Friendly People. Good choice of real ales,
A pub with Atmosphere, you can walk in on your own and people will say hello and have a chat, Entertainment on week ends is 1st class.
If you visit once, you will almost certainly want to visit again.

Black Country Ales (BCA) owned pub. Refurbished Feb 2019, inside & out whilst still keeping the original character of the pub.
Still in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide for the 5th year running.
TV’s introduced in lounge showing Sky & BT sports (on request when possible).
New electronic drinks boards showing the ever changing beers & ciders available. Good selections of gins now on offer too.
Fantastic fresh locally baked (giant!) cobs, ham/Tom or cheese/onion available at a very reasonable price.
Early bird offer Mon-Thurs 12-6 on BCA’s own BFG & Carling.
Entertainment every Friday & most Saturday nights from 9pm.
Heated outside covered smoking area.
Three open fires in lounge & bar.
Separate Darts room in courtyard.
Very popular Annual beer festival takes place in June each year.
Maca & Julie are fantastic hosts who make everyone, strangers or regulars very welcome.
