This was a great experience and the price was worth it! Trish was our guide, and she was great. Really fun and I learned a lot. I loved the mix of a historic building and new industrial design.

This was a great stop on the bourbon tour, with some unique factors that made it stand out! Our tour guide was great and provided a really interesting history of prohibition and how Old Forester maintained operation throughout that time. The best part of the tour was seeing the on-site cooperage. There's one person stationed there making barrels so that tours can see the process. We saw him doing his routine and also saw a demonstration of barrel-charring, which was very fun! Our tasting at the end was great. We sampled four bourbons and paired one with a delicious chocolate covered marshmallow. We got a free pin and also with our tour ticket had access to buy a special bourbon that has limited public access.

Full disclosure, my wife and I didn't have the foresight to book reservations for a tour before we arrived. In fact, I was delightfully stunned to see the distillery literally next door to our hotel, the Hotel Distil; this was something I never thought of, despite being on the Bourbon Trail. We were only able to visit the gift shop, but it was enough for me to want to return on an official tour.
The day before our stop by, we were walking to lunch when we saw actual barrels being rolled out of the front door, across the sidewalk, and loaded onto an Old Forester-branded stake-bed truck. To a whiskey aficionado such as myself, I thought I was dreaming. This was really happening! In a downtown city! On a public sidewalk! Best experience ever.
The next day, we had some time before needing to be at our actual destination, so we stopped by on our way back from breakfast. The storefront and gift shop are spacious and filled with all sorts of bourbon-based items, ranging from the usual shirts and hats, to things like buttons, recipe books, and colognes. The interior shop had all the examples of everything Old Forester produces, except for the rare editions, like the Birthday Bourbons. When I asked about the possibility of purchasing some of those, the staff said they are purposefully left in the dark about when or where those bottles will be sold. "Drops" are announced shortly beforehand, and oftentimes they find long lines of people waiting at the front door when they arrive to open things up. Don't go expecting to grab one off the shelf.
It's not just gifts and memorabilia, though, the "Copper Penny", the huge still is visible to inspect, and visitors can climb upstairs to watch the bottling and labeling process for whatever is on the line that date. I got to see Statesman editions being filled and sealed.
If you're interested in a tour, book early, but if you miss out, it's still worth a visit.

We did a 4 day Bourbon trail tour and this was stop 1 on day 1. We loved this tour and it was a highlight to our trip. The areas you get to go through have been renovated so they are really impressive to see. Our guide Carly was really funny and interesting and kept us entertained. We finished in the tasting room and enjoyed each of the offereings. Love that large copper still is called Big Penny and that you can see her from so many different places. Also in the gift store they had a distillery only selection, "Uncle Baby Billy" and we purchased a bottle. When we got home we tried it and it was very good.

The bar and bartenders are fantastic. We didn’t take the tour but did have a bourbon flight in the bar and quite enjoyed it. All of the staff - greeters, bartenders, gift shop - were very friendly and freely gave out recommendations of other places to go.

A wonderful tour and beautiful distillery with a ton of history. Our guide, Leigh Ann, was great and had a great personality, had good jokes, and provided so much history and knowledge about their bourbons. We enjoyed the tasting and had 4 different bottles to taste and one of their amazing chocolate cover marshmallow and Carmel treats.
A huge shout out to Trish is customer service! The website showed that all the tours were sold out and I called earlier this week and she said an 11:30 tour may be added. I followed up the next day and she advised me that it was just posted and to book.
The offer a military and veterans rate, too!
The gift shop is great and the staff was so helpful and nice.

This was a great tour with lots of history! Especially loved the charring of the barrel. This was one of our favorite stops!

We have been to almost all of the distilleries on the trail, and we have found the downtown places to be disappointing. Old Forrester also falls into this category. The tour is like any other tour and tasting, and the items in the gift shop don’t stand out either. We would love to see every distillery offer a special bottle that is only available at the distillery and not for sale anywhere else. A special age, cask, single… something to make the trip to the bourbon trail really special.

Took the Old Forester Distilling tour last week and really enjoyed it! Lots of interesting history about the company a well as an up close look of how their bourbon is made, barreled, matured, and bottled. Very well run outfit! Our tour guide (I'm old and can't remember her name) was great! Very knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to answer all of our questions.
Groups were small which was nice. Tasting at the end was very interesting and a nice touch. The 1910 was my favorite bottle and the chocolate covered marshmallows are off the chain! Next time in Louisville I'll go again.

We took three tours and the Old Forester tour was hands down the best. Our guide, Aaron, was knowledgeable and a skilled communicator. The tour taught us not only about the brand but the history of distilling in KY. We saw the area where they bottle the bourbon, where they construct the barrels and a large barrel storage room. This was much more comprehensive than the other tours we took. If you’re interested in more than just a PR session for a brand, I’d highly recommend it.
