I have visited cane ridge several times but for most in our group this was their first visit. I love the meeting house and the curator provided an excellent presentation on the history of Cane Ridge.

What a treasure. It is a valuable place in the history of the movement of God and Holy Spirit. Dutch Sheets had spoken of it in Give Him 15 and peeked my curiosity. It is close to The Ark Encounter and Creation Museum which made it an easy side trip. I had emailed the curator (curator@caneridge.org) to ensure it was open on Sunday afternoon. James made a point of coming to visit me during the time I was there; a wealth of information. There are grounds to walk through and history within to read about. To me, the inside of the building was amazing. To feel the history, to stand at the pulpit, to sit and pray on the balcony was surreal. I was truly blessed by this historical place. If you come to visit, come the back way, not the highway, it is BEAUTIFUL country.

Wow. What a journey.
Visiting the Cane ridge meeting house, the sight of America's 2nd grade awakening revival in 1801, as thousands of people came by foot, wagon, horse for a week long revival, meeting God, America was transformed from lawlessness back to Christianity.
Where are Gods nation changing preachers and Christians today?
America needs Gods fresh transforming fire NOW.
CATCH GODS FIRE. CARRY AND SHARE GODS ANOINTING FIRE. ALLOW GODS TRANSFORMING FIRE TO CHANGE YOU AND YOUR WORLD DAILY.
No, dont retire. REFIRE TODAY.
America canmot survive, without it.

In 1801 this historic structure hosted a "Revival". In a mere 7 days over 20,000 people attended services at this church, sparking a religious fervor that is arguably responsible for the American South being Christian country to this day.
I got there before the site opened for the day, so I wandered the grounds for a bit, visited several historic graves, including that of Barton W. Stone (the reverend who presided over the 1801 revival).
The site opened promptly at 1pm (my visit was on a Sunday), and the entire property was overseen by just 1 care taker. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the site, but the best part was the amount of freedom he allowed. I toured both floors of the structure, got behind the pulpit, and got to get "hands on" with everything at the site.
I left the meeting house and stopped by the museum/gift shop, which turned out to the be most surprising part of the trip. The caretaker was still at the mine site, meaning I wandered the museum completely alone. The giftshop was like wise empty, and simply had a lock box for you to drop your money in. I grabbed a book about the history of the site, left $20 in the lock box, and headed out for my next destination.
I cannot understate the importance of this structure in the history of the American south. It's almost criminal how little is know about this site. I highly recommend a trip here, as there are many other historical sites nearby.

My ancestor was at the Great Revival here in 1801. I've wanted to see this two story log church - was not disappointed. We visited on April 8, 2021 - the first week they had opened for the season. We were the only ones here - the curator came to turn on the lights and share a short history. Very impressive to see for ourselves - amazing early American frontier history. No cost to enter - donations are appreciated. Museum is next door with excellent time line and samples of early American life. Worth the trip.

What an amazing place. Such a beautiful location. Amazing to think of the crowds that came here to start the Great Revival that swept across early America.

This site is the original log meeting house of the Cane Ridge Revival of 1801, a prominent part of the Second Great Awakening. The pastor then was encouraged to locate there by Daniel Boone, and the week long revival turned into a camp meeting attracting 25-30,000 participants. It led to the establishment of the Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ movements. The log structure is housed in a beautiful stone building and is well maintained. Most all is original with the floors and pews being "new", 1882. The grounds are lovely and contain a cemetery with gravestones unique to Kentucky and this location. Plenty of picnic tables and shade. The museum of artifacts of the period and revival is excellent.

Since it was still the off-season, we had to make special arrangements in advance by email. The curator met us at the appointed time. He unlocked the door, turned on the lights and let us explore. There was no tour as such, but he answered every question we could think of.
There are minimal displays with information about the building around the modern structure that encloses the actual meeting house. Presumably, much more is available in the museum, but it is only open starting in April.
It's still a moving experience to sit in the pews and reflect on what went on at the site of the 1801 revival that started the Second Great Awakening. It's tucked away on a rural road behind someone's home, but is a worthwhile detour for any Christian with an interest in church history.

Could you please tell me what hours the Meeting House is open to visitors? I am coming to Paris in April and would love to visit, if my schedule permits. Thank you.
