‪Keeping vigil over a parking lot.‬

‪I wasn't impressed. People think it's the world's large wooden Indian statue, but it's actually a metal frame with hanging wooden carved pieces. So yeah, it's the world's largest Indian statue but it's not sculptured out of wood, and it's situated on a 20-ft tall rock base. It has an interesting history, though. There's another statue in Freeport known as the Big Indian that's 46 feet tall but looks a lot more realistic.‬

‪It's not every day you get to see the World's Tallest Indian and did I mention I love unusual roadside attractions like this. Couldn't help seeing this while driving through and its actually in a parking lot off the road. Was worth a quick stop to see this and read about it.‬

‪Interesting, but don't go out of your way‬

‪It is a large wooden indian monument. It is located in a parking lot which may tell you what you need to know when prioritizing your trip and what sights you can fit in. I would not even consider going by this monument unless it was on my way. If it was however, I would definitely stop and take a look.‬

‪Can't Miss This Tall Statue When Driving Through Skowhegan‬

‪We have been to Skowhegan twice to visit a relative who lives in Solon (north of Skowhegan) & seen this statue as we drove through town. Stopped on recent trip to take a closer look. Created by sculptor Bernard Langlais, it is part of the Langlais Art Trail in Skowhegan. It is the world's tallest Indian sculpture at 62 feet tall atop a 20-foot-tall base. The statue is dedicated to Maine's Abnaki Indians and erected in 1969 to commemorate Maine's 150th anniversary of statehood. The statue is made of wood over a metal frame. Due to weather damage, work was done in 2014 to restore it. Interesting fact - what may look like scaffolding is actually a fish trap used by the Indians.‬

‪Unique statue in a rather odd location. If you are in Skowhegan it is worth the little detour to see this rather different monument.‬

‪Quirky, and worth a visit in S'gan‬

‪Interesting Style of Statue‬

‪Imposing example of Bernard Langlais' work‬

‪It's located in an odd place, adjacent to the parking lot between Cumberland Farms and Variety Drug, but it's worth stopping for a look at the 60 foot tall Indian. There is another wood sculpture right there, too, as well as several others within walking distance. They are all part of the Langlais Art Trail in Skowhegan and several other examples of his work are scheduled to be displayed in the future.‬
