It was such a nice late-summer day that we stopped here for a short hike in the woods before moving onto Wells Beach. We'll definitely return here in a few weeks when the foliage colors ramp up -- the area is particularly beautiful then.

Nice walk, even on a rainy day! We went out here for a geocache and were greeted with an incredible place! Great trails, nice scenery! Loved it!

Lots of trails with a variety of nature. Wetlands, beach and woods. Mild walking, nothing difficult. It gets crowded on the weekends, so go early or on weekday.

We had an amazing time here! The hiking paths are maintained nicely and you can practically touch the wildlife (birds everywhere, butterflies fluttering, and bugs buzzing). We walked the trail to the ocean and it was a magnificent sight upon reaching the shore! When land meets water, magic happens. Thanks to all who keep this place so special.

My wife and I went here to hike around. Nice even terrain, shady trails, walk to the beach (About .6 miles). The buildings were closed at the hour we went, but we'll be back. Plenty of parking, maps available.

Wells Reserve at Laudholm offers various hiking trails in the most beautiful area. The buildings on the property are well kept and lovely. We enjoyed hiking the Barrier Beach Trail through wooded and marsh areas to the beach. The rocky beach has a little sand area. We loved the view as we walked along the coast.

You have a choice of trails; through woods or over fields to a nice stretch of sandy beach. On the latter route there's often sculptures on display.
Remember to bring sunscreen, and keep dogs on a leash (the beach includes a bird-nesting area.)

This was a stop during a foliage drive down the coast, so we didn't hike the trail this visit but we did stroll the grounds and visit the museum/gift shop in the historic home. The grounds are views are beautiful, especially in autumn.

We stopped here to hike but also enjoyed the exhibits. The current bird photography exhibit was excellent and a favorite of ours. The historical exhibits documenting the history of the farm, with historical photos, was also excellent. The hike along the boardwalk through the swamp was educational with the signage that is well placed. We were glad we decided to stop here.

We had a nice day, roaming the tents of the craft fair in the morning and then hiking a few of the trails in the afternoon.

Is there ample parking does the lot fill quickly on the weekends?

Parking is sufficient for typical weekends, with about 70 spaces plus overflow parking along the edge of the entry road. Some weekends have weddings that might make it crowded and a few weekends each year have larger events (our crafts festival Sept 8/9 and Punkinfiddle Sept 29 this year). Normally, you should be fine.

I called Wells Reserve at Laudholm and asked about where to bring our own Kayak. They said we may be able to carry in from the main parking and put the kayak in at the Little River - would that be off of the Farley Trail? Can we put it in at any point or is there a best place to do so?

Tic issues if one sticks to the trails? Safe enough to just spray pant cuffs! ? I can't use repellent on my skin.

We were there a couple weeks ago and my friend said she saw a tick on her. The trail to the beach isn't a problem bc that's open but we took another trail that is in heavy woods, lots of branches hanging over us, etc. That's prob where she got it.

We do not have a public launch accessible through the Wells Reserve main campus. We run guided trips, using our own kayaks, from a private dock. You can still explore one of the reserve's estuaries by putting in at Harbor Park (Harbor Road, Wells) and paddling into the Webhannet salt marsh.

Certainly! We consider ourselves fortunate to have hundreds of volunteers who give thousands of hours each year. There are many ways to get involved, so it's a good idea to visit, call, or email to find the right fit.
