‪If you are in town or stop to have lunch in old town Denton, stop by at the museum during your walking tour of this little quaint town to learn about history of people who lived in Caroline County. It is located just apposite to the Court House and one block from Market Street where the center of the old town is. Unless you are fascinated with Rural Life and have tie with Caroline County, it may not warrant to stop by at the museum alone.‬

‪The WWII exihbit is very moving. Local service letters read over photos, most didn't come home. Take the time to listen to the stories, well worth it. ‬

‪While I agree it is a bit sparse, you must consider the material of the area compared to the audience expectation. I found the museum to be informative to the audience it was intended, which was mostly the UGR (Underground Railway). The only real issue I had was the regularity of the open availability referenced to the open hours signs that are posted.‬

‪The big white house with the columns on 5th St. should be the museum, not this small house with no space or real exhibits‬

‪The Museum of Rural Life offers a glimpse of the life and times of the people of the community of Denton and Caroline County. I learned that the museum is the product of dedicated volunteers and members of the community who sought to preserve their heritage and tell the story of this place. They did a great job. It is not high tech and does not include the involved interpretive features of more formidable museums. This place just tells the stories and you can take in a little or a lot. Take your pick.‬

‪My wife and I wanted to actually stop and visit Denton,MD instead of just driving by on the way to the beaches. We stayed for the weekend and right across the street form our B&B was the museum. I read about it before we arrived and was expecting to see what others have reviewed about but..... They have a brand new exhibit " World War II Stories". Being a life long military history buff, I was delighted to tour and read the war experiences about local soldiers and their wives. Carol Stockley, who warmly greeted us at the entrance was a wealth of knowledge and is truly passionate about sharing her's and other's experiences with you. Many letters to and from our "greatest generation" hero"s are on exhibit including a fantastic display about war wives. It's a must see!‬

‪Great visit as you step into a seemingly small building and find out it goes on and on. The entrance holds a painted canvas floor cloth with all the owner's names inscribed - ask for an explanation - fascinating history. On to the current World War 2 exhibit with its tribute to fallen Caroline Country soldiers. The Museum is a tribute to Caroline county and the staff is most knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this land and it's hardships. Most fascinating was the explanation of the "25 year economic boom and 75 year Bust" cycle this area has endured. Those with roots on the Eastern shore will appreciate the salvaged architecture and the personal insight of the museum leadership. Black history is included and is it's significant impact on national events.
The group that supports this museum has "saved" 48 historic structures across Caroline County - an amazing feat !!‬

‪Materials are minimal and often not explained. Exhibits are few. Hard to make a big deal about farming.‬

‪Our family was staying overnight in Easton and decided to visit a museum on this rainy day. We searched the GPS listings and found this museum in Denton... off we went. We were warmly greeted by Carol Stokely (sp?) who, at near 90 years old, was vibrant and dedicated to the museum's interpretation. The original building is dated to the early 1800s and is the headquarters for the Caroline County Historical Society (on second floor). More rooms were added to to provide an expansion of exhibits. As noted earlier, the museum is deceiving in that is very expansive once inside. Carol indicated there were plans to annex the town offices behind the museum in the future as funds become available. A group named "The Questers" donated several antique pieces. Carol showed us several exhibits, which primarily focused on facets of some of the Caroline County area buildings, along with an extensive display of paintings and sketches by artist Mark Priest depicting slavery and The Underground Railroad. Further information about the museum can be found at: http://www.carolinehistory.org/places/museum-of-rural-life/ and a great write-up by Shalagh Hogan, with great photos & descriptions, at http://travelhag.com/2013/08/04/museum-of-rural-life-denton/. We decided to have lunch at the nearby Market Street Pub, which was a good decision :-)‬

‪Was lunching in Denton and saw the sign for this museum. Its on a historical square in a little historical, albeit sleepy village. The building is deceiving from outside where it just looks like a house on the square but when you enter it goes and goes.
This is the second museum I have visited this month presided over by a single volunteer who did not have the lights on. I do understand that if you are not expecting anyone saving electricity makes sense, but as a visitor, I really feel unwelcomed.
I was hoping to see a few displays about Denton or some Rural displays...being interested in farm equipment. The volunteer advised that the regular displays had been removed/rearranged to allow for a painting display. The paintings did not impress, although there is an entire log cabin that was interesting. There is also a lot of furniture, but since I am not interested in furniture, I will let someone else comment on it. I am sure there are a lot of resources here that I did not investigate. Hope other reviewers do.‬
