No boat tours due to being short staffed. Visitor Center young lady in one of the warehouses was very knowledgeable. Good Jr. Ranger offerings. Good location to see the lift locks, turning basin, Lock House No. 44, aqueduct, railroad lift bridge, and towpath. Nice walking and biking area.

Visitor center is closed according to the answering machine. Outdoor areas are accessible. The aqueduct is probably the most interesting thing.

I really enjoyed the Williamsport and Dam 5 areas of C&O Canal park. I liked it even better than Harpers Ferry. Definitely drive the 5 miles up to Dam 5.

We picked up the canal tow path at the aqueduct. The tow path trail is nice and a great place to get out and get some exercise. The canal on the other hand, is nothing but a pool of stagnant water covered with algae. Thought I'd give this section of the canal a try, but will return to Great Falls in the future since the views are nicer there.

This was a great stop with the more than friendly Rangers who swore my kid in as a Junior Ranger and really made the ceremony special. Stamps for NPS passport is here, and so in an overview film about the canal and its importance - just ignore the dated reference to "a few miles from here, the Concorde takes off."

Great trail for cycling or walking\ running. The trail is shaded. I saw woodpeckers, herons and deer in a multi color lead background. The rangers and volunteers had a great historical display on the Friday that I was there.

I thought there was nothing really to see here. Also, it just wasn’t that pretty. The one thing that was interesting was that it was dug by hand. Skip it.

It’s an historic water-filled bridge, part of the C&O to float canal boats 40’ feet above the Creek below. Some people find that awe-inspiring. The Greeks & Roman’s figured aquaducts out. So did early Americans. Still a marvel as it’s just been restored by the Park Service.

The trails for bike riding and walking are excellent. Nicely shaded and well worn. We enjoyed a several mile walk with our goldendoodle before we turned around.

is there a charge for the boat ride

This ride is complimentary and you need to check in at museum/ gift shop or meet the Ranger at the dock. Only 10-12 passengers per boat. There are 3 boats but not all in operation at all times. Today rides were at 11am and 1 pm only. No rides on Monday or Tuesday.
