‪Great little museum‬
زوجان • أغسطس 2021
‪We would pass this all the time and finally we stopped in. What a wonderful little museum. The house itself is a wonder to walk through. The Cahoon’s artwork is both beautiful and whimsical. The new exhibitions are interesting, intriguing and a wonder to see.‬

‪Vacation Highlight!‬
يونيو 2021
‪I am a big fan of American Folk art, and my main reason for the visit was to see the charming paintings by Ralph and Martha Cahoon. I truly enjoyed those plus the interior of the historic house, their former residence, with the stenciling and the painted furniture.
However, I was totally blown away by the current exhibit by Ethan Murrow. One whole room was just devoted to a huge painting of a vertical tree. It was created in a week by several artists and will unfortunably be painted over once the exhibit ends on October 3.
There were also two other stunning paintings by Ethan Murrow and another interesting exhibit of modern art by Duncan Johnson named "Under Construction". I thought it was really amazing that a small museum could display so many different pieces of art!
The Cahoom Museum is very handicapped friendly. There is a back entrance that leads straight to the elevator which takes visitors to the first and second floors. Te building also has been fairly recently renovated, and the newer parts blend very well with the original house. Don't miss this true gem!‬

‪SCOTT PRIOR IS OUSTANDING IN HIS DEPICTIONS OF CAPE COD AND BERKSHIRE LIFE!‬
مارس 2021
‪I had gone out of my way to make a reservation on March 18, the very first day of the 2021 season and I was not disappointed by the paintings of Scott Prior, a Cape Cod native. His use of texture, light, color and detail stimulated my eyes and moved my soul as I viewed his poignant portrayals of life on Cape Cod and in the Massachusetts Berkshires.

The collection is small; however, I so enjoyed Mr. Prior's work that I found myself lingering, appreciating and not wanting to leave.

Very glad I visited the museum It made my entire day!

‪Local Art Attraction‬
ديسمبر 2019
‪Small, but very nice historic local museum. Small fee for entry and several rooms dedicated to the family founders of the homestead, turned museum. Whimsical and historic artwork and decorated floors and furniture. A few artist displays with interesting media and themes, plus some interactive displays for guests and a small but unique and reasonably priced gift shop. Very convenient to travelers and close to local restaurants in and around Mashpee Commons.‬

‪Sailor's Valentines‬
أغسطس 2019
‪I had a fabulous day at the Cahoon Museum and heard a very interesting talk on the history of Sailor Valentines and how they were made by a renown artist, Sandi Blanda. Her work is exquisite! (tiny shell art ,originally made in the late 1800s in Barbados and brought back by sailors) I learned so much and even won a raffle of one of Sandi's pieces. I love it !‬

‪Changing Exhibits, Artwork, and Museum Gift Shop‬
سبتمبر 2019
‪We visited the Cahoon Museum specifically to see the Daguerreotype exhibit which is on display through the end of October. It was extremely interesting to view the video describing this early form of photography and to look at all the photographs in the collection dating from around the 1850's. To preserve the photos, the lighting cannot be direct, so we found that if photos did not seem clear upon view, it was best to stand back from the cases, or look from a different angle and the photo would be clearer. Well worth a trip if you have an interest in old photos or photography.

The Museum itself was also nice. Although not fans of the Mermaid art collection, there were several lovely art pieces by Martha Cahoon, such as a old-fashioned winter sleigh scene, and many are available in the Museum store in the form of a $3 card or a coffee mug. There is a nice selection of other gifts too. Old chests and furnishings are also in the Museum to see.

Our recommendation would be to check out their website and plan a visit when you have an interest in one of their changing exhibits. We spent more time in the Daguerreotype exhibit room, than we did looking at the permanent art collection.‬

‪Blue trees, sailors' valentines, and a mermaid's dollhouse ...‬
أغسطس 2019
‪are all on display at the Cahoon Museum. As you approach the building, you’ll immediately notice the blue trees in the yard. Artist Konstantin Dimopoulos presents the viewer with a powerful environmental statement to express his concern for deforestation and the importance of trees. I was glad to learn that the blue dye he used is water-soluble and non-toxic.

Once inside there is a small, but interesting, exhibit (ending Sept. 1) of intricate arrangements of shells in octagonal boxes, referred to as sailors' valentines. It was discovered that these were produced on the island of Barbados as a souvenir item and not by sailors as originally thought. Works made in the 1800s in addition to those created by modern artists are on display. An unexpected highlight among the valentines is the mermaid’s dollhouse by artist Peter Gabel. It’s a tiny wonder; everything in it is expertly made of seashells and so very small. The artist had to use tweezers to put it together.

The Museum was originally the home of Cape Cod folk artists Ralph and Martha Cahoon. Martha, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, learned the art of decorating furniture from her father and taught the technique to her husband Ralph. This work eventually led them to easel painting and they both became well-known American folk artists. Ralph’s paintings feature mermaid-themed scenes.

This charming place is a delight, and I highly recommend a visit. The building has undergone an extensive renovation and is now handicapped accessible.‬
