‪Incredibly irritated with the female ranger at the Trailside Museum. We are visiting from Ireland, so my childrens cell phones do not work here for cell service. We went hiking and my daughter got lost. She found her way to the museum after an hour and explained she was lost and could she use the wifi to contact me. The female ranger shook her head no. The nice man behind the desk offered her his phone but she didn’t know any numbers to call anyone because she doesn’t live in the country and never has. Eventually the man looked at the female ranger and she relented and “kindly” allowed my daughter to use the wifi to contact me. Meanwhile, I was running all over the trail trying to find her. I don’t know if this is policy but it’s a very poor way to treat a lost child. We certainly won’t be back. This woman seriously need retraining.‬

‪Decided to take our puppy for his first hike here since it’s closest to home. Not impressed. Stopped to tie my hiking shoes in the parking lot ant was greeted by used hypodermic needles on the ground. Followed by lots of broken glass on the trail, and bags and bags of dog poop. Gonna forget this experience & redo his first real hike elsewhere.‬

‪Came here on a lovely early-spring weekend for a hike. We mostly followed a 5.4 mile loop of the Skyline trail - parking at the Shea Memorial Rink Lot and heading north and west from there. It was a moderate hike with some steep ups and downs in certain areas (mostly south of Chickatawbut Rd.)

If you're looking to avoid any hiking - you can head right to the best view we saw on our hike in the parking lot here: 42.226, -71.0614‬

‪We were looking for something near Boston and this fit the bill. Close by and not too strenuous a hike. We were able to find parking and enjoyed the hike and scenery. ‬

‪I have been visiting this beautiful park for over fifty years, and I'm still finding new parts of the park to see and explore. This is definitely the best park in the greater Boston area for hiking, and leaf-looking in the fall, with miles of trails, varying from carriage roads to rocky climbs. The Skyline Trail, a tough rocky trail, was recently voted by Conde Nast's Traveler's magazine as among one of the best twenty-six fall hiking trails in the US. This trail can be strenuous, as the name implies, and requires good hiking skills, and a recommended walking stick, but it is well worth the effort. The Skyline trail goes up down the hills in the park, culminating at the top of the Great Blue Hill, at over 630 feet the highest coastal hill on the Atlantic south of the state of Maine. In the summer Houghton’s Pond, in the park, is a popular swimming area. The park also has many sizable picnic areas, and is very popular in the summer months. Plenty of parking, and a snack bar is sometimes open in the summer.‬

‪If you find yourself in the area of the south western corner of metro Boston and you are looking to get out of your car or home and do some walking, or just taking in of the sites and sounds of nature, then the Blue Hills is for you.‬

‪The Blue Hills Reservation stretches 9 square miles through Milton, Quincy, Boston, and Canton. The best hiking spots are mostly on Chickatawbut Hill, accessed from the road of the same name (Chickatawbut Road). For experienced hikers, the 9-mile Skyline Trail is beautiful and affords excellent views of downtown Boston and the Seaport area. For families and those looking for a shorter hike, either hiking a part of the Skyline Trail or the red dot trail, or the 1-mile yellow dot loop near the overlook on Chickatawbut Road are your best bets.‬

‪Thank you, CCC for carving out this natural site for hiking, skiing and so much more. After hiking or skiing, make sure you stop by the museum for ideal background on all the native species. The small zoo is ideal for the little ones to identify species and appreciate nature. Great access for poles as well as strollers for all to enjoy!‬

‪From the nature museum, a family hike to Elliot Tower, skill trails: red, yellow, green, white and blue with increasing demand. From a lunch break to a day trekking the trails, Blue Hill Reservation has it all. All trails are no charge. See Boston from a mew perspective. The maps are accurate. Bring a water bottle(not a plastic bottle of retail water), a compass, snacks, weather-appropriate gear and a sense of adventure!‬
