Lovely flowers but they need to work on making the display of flowers more aesthetically and visually pleasing.
A good escape indoors to enjoy nature's beauty on a cold day.

I enjoyed taking a walk through this place. It's a short walk from the Bentley University hockey rink if you know the area. Nice greenhouses with plants for sale and shrubs outside. You need a COVID mask. The grounds are nice to walk about and there were half a dozen people there taking graduation pictures, this in mid-August so the timing seemed a bit odd but it is a nice venue for that. Worth a visit if you are fond of this type of thing.

And of course I spent too much! But I took home several lovely ferns, a calathea, peperomia, jasmine loaded with buds, and a sweet little dendrobium orchid. This was the nicest selection I've seen since the old days of Edgar's in Belmont, and certainly no longer seen at the Boston Flower Show, alas. And a quality mail-order greenhouse can only send smaller specimens.

Visited during a lunch break 1 day during a chilly day out. Greenhouse was easy to maneuver with nice selection of plants and flowers. They also had flowers/plants for purchase.

The house has an elegant ballroom and oval parlor, both examples of Federal design. Wonderful old Lyman Estate Greenhouses with lovely plants including an "ancient" grape vine, and the give expert advice.
The Lyman Estate, or "The Vale" Theodore Lyman built his summer retreat for his family. Lyman experimented with and promoted forward-looking agricultural practices and floriculture, he imported some of the first European copper beeches to be planted in America. The estate’s greenhouse complex is one of the oldest surviving examples in the country. The estate made a magnificent impression on those who have seen it. In poet William Cullen Bryant, described it as, “a perfect paradise.”.

The Lyman Estate Greenhouses possess a wide variety of plants and flowers, many rare and fragile. Books on gardening are also available. Some specimens are available for purchase, but most are not. Most are marked with tags that describe species, most common habitat, and other interesting characteristics. During my visit, the greenhouses were not well staffed. They were essentially empty, although a staff member was present in a back room who came out when I called out to ask if "any body was home?". A small selection of plants are available to purchase at a convenient roadside stand on Lyman Street. It is worth visiting the greenhouses just to visit the grounds of the Estate. Huge beautiful ancient trees as much as 10 to 15 feet in diameter grow on the grounds. There are a lot of signs describing the varied species and the reasons why they were planted by the original occupants of the estate.

The landscape is stunning.I took more pictures of that than anything else. The inside of the house was good too. I love the old time architecture but, I felt it was lacking in furniture. Still a great place to go check out. Would love to go to an event there.

The Lyman Estate is a handsome building in a picturesque setting.
We visited on an open house day, so there was no tour However, there were on site docents who provided us with much information. Several of the interior rooms are stunning.
Outside the rhododendrons. azaleas, and a number of other flowers were in bloom, making for a very nice walk from the house to the greenhouse.
There were a number of signs describing the greenhouse. It is special because it dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. Otherwise, it is just a greenhouse.

Beautiful plants and well maintained property. There are suggested donations, but no cost to enter. Not a whole evening destination, but a lovely place to visit if you are nearby.

Great place to visit on a cold winter day! It is a small place, but well stocked and a great history! Paths are narrow and not wheelchair accessible. There are a few steps also that are steep. Great collection of Camellias and there is an area to purchase plants. Lots of unusual stuff! Worth the visit! Roads around the greenhouse are not paved so it is a bit bumpy.
