If you weren't looking for this, it would be hard to spot. But once you find it, nicely done statue of Ms. Parks.

Parking is okay but it is outside of a bus terminal so just be prepared for that. I'm sure because it is a bus terminal there's a parking lot but I went later in the day, so I just had my husband wait for me across the street.
Actual statue of Rosa Parks is inside at one end.
You are free to go inside and check it out, as well as all the beautiful glass murals lining both side walls.
It is a beautiful statue of her standing.
It shows her in a pose that is not normally depicted of her, but also really shows her feminism and class.
She's usually always shown in a sitting position, and I think it's important to remember that she's so much more than a generational hero and icon. She may not have been the actual first person to refuse to give up her seat, however she still contributed much to this nation.
She helped contribute to the idea that women are more than just cooks and maids; that we can be talented and do well at regular jobs outside of the home. She helped contribute to the idea that everyone deserves a safe seat on the bus, no matter what section of the bus it's on, and what their skin color is. She helped contribute to the idea that women should always feel safe and not worry about assaults, regardless of who or what the offender is, in race or job.
She was a beautiful and smart woman, a wife, a daughter, hardworking, and was dedicated to going against the status quo in general. Many things she knew to be "normal" to not do at that time in history, she did anyways.
She made her own quilt by age 10 which was a rarity because of the tradition of quilt making, she was a secretary during a time when women were in the kitchen, she was an activist for women and black people alike which proved to be dangerous for her at times, she was one of about 7% black people to graduate high school, she secured her voting registration within 3 tries despite laws in place, and more.
She was proof that no matter how hard things are made, you can have what you want if you truly go after it. She was one of many many people who helped provide hope for many of the possibilities that are there when they don't just allow their life to be decided for them. Don't just "sit and take it". If something is "wrong", then speak up and help change it.
The murals are showing different events and different people that have also contributed to the growth of our country.
Take your time going through and exploring each one and enjoying the art and the lessons.
These days we do enjoy many freedoms, but at the same time we still got to remember that we have work to do.
I have photos, but I need to take them off my computer. So I will add them at a later date.

A comprehensive collection of beautiful stained class windows, tile murals and the Rosa Parks statute pays tribute to the relationship between public transportation and civil rights. Don't miss the beautiful tile murals in the bathrooms

What a wonderful tribute to one of our country's greatest civil rights activists. It's an honor to have a statue in her honor in our city. I hope it continues to stay in Flint for a long time to come.

While it's a nice tribute and located in a bus station...I think a diorama of her sitting on a bus would be better.

I've taken numerous pictures of her with people over the years. She carries a dignity about her and the and the statue captured her at her finest. She's part of my daily travels.

I am the ultimate explorer. Was searching for an image of Rosa Parks to take shots of to go with my 1st cover stamps this year. I found a bronze, life-size statue of her in Flint, and of all places. Let me say that I was bowled over when I went to the MTA Terminal in February to take shots. Frankly, this is a museum to Rosa Parks as far as I'm concerned, and it is free.
The bronze sculpture is incredible. There, there are the stained glass windows, which are a testimonial to her. The statue was sculpted by Anthony Frudakis. She is shown standing, wearing glasses, a purse over her shoulder, clutching a pair of gloves. This is not the pose that you usually see. Her refusing to leave her seat happened on Dec. 1, 1955.
There was a lot of controversy around this statue when it was UNVEILED QUIETLY in Flint, which I only go into on my bus tours. Truly, I am in awe of what I see here. As a cyclist, I stop here all the stop now and just amazed that this place isn't flooded with visitors. Of course, one needs to know the entire story to appreciate the works of art. My tours feature the artists.
Examine each of the windows for scenes relating to the statue. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. It's free. Open to the pubic. Amazing art work. FREE.
For the record. Safe parking on the street.

The Rosa Parks Statue is a Bronze, life-sized one. It is located in the West End of the new MTA Terminal. The statue is oriented so that the likeness of Rosa Parks is viewing the Bus waiting area.
The new MTA Terminal has several stained-glass windows and works of art to view. It's almost like a gallery, except that it is a waiting lounge for the Flint bus system.
