This is the current main feature at the Gardens. It is huge! you can walk right up to it as well and get amazing photos.

The Frederik Meijer Gardens are amazing and de Vinci's Horse is nothing short of awesome. The Gardens have so much to offer and you need the day to see it all...the gardens and the sculpture park...and if you time it right, you might even get in on a free outdoor concert!

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Meijer Gardens. Originally I was interested in seeing the DaVinci horse, but was amazed at the other wonderful sculptures by a variety of artists. The children’s garden was wonderful even though we are grandparents and traveling sans children. The kids there appeared to be having the time of their lives with the interactive Great Lakes water feature.

In order to see this sculpture, you must buy an admission to the Meijer Gardens, but it's worth it. It's also fun to watch kids go up to the sculpture. This horse is HUGE!

We had no idea that Da Vinci had created such an incredible masterpiece. The size and splendor of this amazing work of art defies your eyes. 24’ high! 6000 tons ???
Even more interesting is the fact that the Meijer’s Gardens has not 1 of these masterpiece horse sculptures- but three of them of different scale models.
Definitely a worthwhile view that you won’t want to miss.

Must see attraction while at Frederik Meijer Gardens! I would love to know more about how it got to the museum. Guess that means I need to take another visit!

A monument to creativity, The American Horse was created by famed animaliere or animal sculptor, Nina Akamu. The work was inspired, in part, by a work created by Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci for the Duke of Milan in the late 15th century. The project was championed by Frederik Meijer in the late 1990's, resulting in two casts of the 24-foot monument—one for Meijer Gardens and one for the city of Milan, Italy. In addition, to inspiration from Leonardo, Akamu was also inspired by the history of equine imagery and the study of horses.
