I visited this temple at around 4:00 pm with family. The temple is approx. 10km from my hotel Chola Dynasty, Kumbakonam.
Devotees come here to pray Lord Shiva to relieve themselves from Graha Dosham, Pithru Dosham and other sins of past/present births.
You may also visit this temple for performing normal pooja.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Within the temple premises there are following temples,
1) Lord Sri Ganesh,
2) Lord Sri Brihaspathy,
3) Lord Sri Subramanian,
4) Goddess Sri Parvathy,
5) 106 Shivalinga in one temple sanctum,
6) 107th Shivalinga in the main temple sanctum,
7) 108th Hanumantha Shivalinga in a separate temple outside the main temple premises.
The main priest can speak and understand English which is a major plus point and this will help in communicating your requirements for rituals / pooja to be performed at the temple.
As of Oct 2021, charges for 108 Shivalinga Archana is INR 750/- (inclusive of flowers, fruits and coconut). Charges for 108 Shivalinga Lamp Pooja is INR 750/- (inclusive of flowers, fruits and coconut).
One has to offer separate Dakshina (cash) to the priest who performs the rituals.
Overall we had a good experience and it was fruitful visiting this Shiva Temple.

Ols and historical temple. As per old stories Lord Ram have worshiped here. Here 107 shivling in temple. Very good historical temple.

This temple is famously Called as "108 Shivalayam".
This temple is found on the route of Thanjavur - Kumbakonam.
From Kumbakonam it is around 25 kms..
Lord Rama installed 108 Shiva lingas to clear the "BRAHMAHATHTHI DHOSAM" for killing Karan-Thoosan.
After onstalling 108 Shivalingas and Praying lord Shiva here, Lord Rama's Brahamahaththi Dhosam got cleared.
Hence the name came as " PAPANAASAM" for this town..

Sri Ramalingeswarar temple not only faces west but all the 108 Shiva Lingas in the temple are also facing west and so,the power of the temple is very supreme to benefit the devotees.it is believed that by visiting this temple they get the punnya of visiting 108 siva temples. The divine cow,Kamadenu has an equal place with Nandhi of Lord Siva,before his shrine in this temple.Lord Rama worshiped the Kamadenu as per the advise of Maharshi Agasthya. This place is known as papanasam. The sins of lord Rama and others incured during Lanka war is destroyed in this place by the 108 sivalinga pujas and worshiping lord Siva.

I recently visited this temple with friends.It is located on the way to kumbakonam.The temple holds is history and recently some renovation work is going on.The temple houses 108 beautiful Siva linga idols.On the whole a very good to temple to visit.

At this temple lord shiva is the main god.it has 108 lingas which includes moolavar (the main idol).the history of the temple is those who have done punniya karmas can only able to visit this temple.the temple collects 5 rs for seeing the lingas.

On 3rd day of our twelve days religious personal tour in pious Shravan, we visite108 Shivalayam Temple, Papnasam is located in Papnasam dedicated Lord shiva situated at a distance of 20 km from Kumbakonam. According to legends, this temple was built by Lord Rama and the 108 Shiva lingams were installed by him. Even though Ravana was a demon, he was a great Shiva Bhakta. By killing him, Lord Rama had got Dosha. To ward off this Dosha, he installed the 108 lingams. It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva in this temple would remove all sins.There is a separate huge Linga called Hanumantha Linga which is believed to have been installed by Lord Hanuman. It is a wonderful sight to see all the 106 lingams arranged equally in three rows. One can see the 108 Siva lingam in one temple in this Town only. A nice visit. Must visit place for devotee of Lord Shiva.

the temple is on the main road itself and has a beautiful idols of several gods and goddesses. speciality of the temple is that it has 108 shiva lingas , which is worth a visit

The temple is open from 6.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Papanasam is 25 kms from Thanjavur on the way to Kumbakonam and if you are coming from Kumbakonam its 15 kms from Kumbakonam on the way to Thanjavur

This temple which is in Thanjavur district, it is located in Papanasam, Legends have it that this temple was built was Lord Rama and the 108 Shiva lingas were installed by Lord Rama, To ward off the dosha which Lord Rama had on him by killing Ravana who as a demon, Though Ravan was a demon he was a shiva bhakt.
It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva here absolves one of all sin, One can see all the lingas arranged equally in three rows, One can see the 108 Sivalingam in one temple in this Town only
There is a beautiful sculpture in the temple complex depicting the Shiva Puja performed by Lord Rama, Sri Lakshmana, Mother Sita and Sri Anjaneya. As the temple is related to Ramayana epic, Sri Anjaneya and Sri Sugriva have their places in the prakara each greeting the other. As Sugriva has rendered his services to Lord Rama in his mission to rescue Sita, he is recognized this way in the prakara, it is said. Lord Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai, Mother Kasi Visalakshi and Annapporani in a single shrine are in the prakara. Sri Kalabhairava, Sani Bhagwan (Saturn) and Sun God are adjacent to one another.
It is believed that the devotees get response to their prayers offered in temples facing west as they have more gracing powers. Sri Ramalingeswarar temple not only faces west but all the 108 Shiva Lingas are also facing west and therefore, it is natural that the power of the temple is very supreme to benefit the devotees. The devotee also has the additional advantage of worshipping 108 Shiva temples simultaneously from this temple itself. Lord Ramalingaswami is in the main shrine. On a hall (Mandap) there are 106 Shiva Lingas in 3 rows. Hanumantha Linga shrine is outside the temple. Barring the Linga in the sanctum sanctorum, devotees are allowed to offer flowers and prayers directly themselves. Special pujas are performed to 107 Lingas on the pradosham days – 13th day from new moon or full moon days.
The other significance of the temple is that Kamadenu the divine cow has an equal place with Nandhi the bull vehicle of Lord Shriva before His shrine. Lord Rama worshipped Kamadenu as advised by Maharshi Agasthya and it is also said that the Rishi himself worshipped the divine cow and continues the worship even now on Pradosham days. The idol of Kamadenu is so beautiful with ornaments around its neck.
The Vimana (tower above the shrine ) of the Ramalingaswami is based on the Rameswaram design and that of Hanumantha Linga shrine has the Kasi Viswanatha temple pattern. Those unable to visit these places, can have the benefits from this temple itself.
Shivrathri is very devotionally celebrated in the temple. Four time puja is performed for 107 Lingas during the night chanting Rudra Mantras. Rudrabishek is performed to Lord Ramalingaswami. Devotees use to circumambulate around the prakara 108 times. This puja is followed on the Aipasi Annabishekam day too.
The place is called Papanasam as it destroyed the Papas (sins, Nasam-destroying) Lord Rama, Sri Anjaneya and Sri Sugriva incurred during the Lanka war by killing Ravana and others. The place has also the reputation of being praised as East Rameswaram – Keezh Rameswaram. People perform abishek with milk and honey at Surya Theertham for relief from doshas incurred due to failure in performing proper ceremonies for the ancestors.
Lord Nataraja is taken in procession in Margazhi Tiruvadhirai day. As the temple is closely related with Ramayana story, there are sculptures of Lord Rama, Sri Lakshmana, Mother Sita, Sri Anjaneya and Sri Sugriva worshipping Lord Shiva. There are shrines for Lord Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai, Kasi Visalakshi and Annapoorani in a single shrine and Khala Bhairava, Sani Bhagwan and Sun God adjacent to one another.
Lord Rama, after rescuing Sita, performed Shiva Puja in Rameswaram to cleanse Himself of sins that befell on Him in the war killings. While returning to Ayodhya from there, Lord Rama felt that the sins of killing Kara and Dooshana in Janasthanam were following Him. He decided to perform Shiva Puaja immediately. The Lord installed 107 Shivalingas and asked Sri Anjaneya to bring one from Kasi thus making the total 108. The main Linga was named Ramalingawami and the one brought by Sri Anjaneya was named Hanumantha Linga. A shrine was built for Mother Parvadhavardhini later.
