Easy hike, trail well maintained. Saw recent beaver activity, but no beaver. Ice Sickles along the river were cool looking.

There are some paved and some non-paved trails here. Parking is a available in multiple locations for access to the trails. We just did a short walk from the parking to the little bridge overlooking the river. We saw a few people walking dogs, but overall not busy at all and we lucked out and didn't see a single mosquito either!

One of the reasons we return to Petoskey is this walking trail. It is lovely and interning every time. It's not crowded and there is a good parking lot off Sheridan street. Don't miss going south on the gravel trail as well with wild flowers and such.

Incredibly beautiful and peaceful hike. We followed the North Country Trail along the river. Walked from the south end at River Bend Park to downtown Petoskey for breakfast before hiking back.

What a pleasant surprise! We tried several parks in the area but the crowds were too much. This place was not only free of crowds, but was the most beautiful! Wonderful trails, water rapids and a water fall. I highly recommend it!

What a great experience to walk along the Bear River. We both agreed that the next times we are headed north we will return again. Don’t forget to watch the fishing by the bridge.

Amazing scenery along the river walk. Will absolutely return next time we are “up north.”

Peaceful walk along the bear river. Enjoyable. Easy to find and parking nearby. We did not walk the entire trail ,but it was fun.

Great place to bike! Loved it so much! We started down near downtown Petoskey and biked all the way up and then flew down the hill! The only reason it gets four stars is because it would be harder for smaller children to bike all the way up. Overall, super fun and a great little bike ride.

NIce little walk through the woods next to the river. Many people fishing and a nice little overlook with lots of stair you can climb

Yes. Salmon start running here as early as the end of July. The Bear River at Lake Street bridge is a favorite spot although sometimes it can be intimidating & dangerous with the amount of fishermen/women. Downriver at the mouth of the Bear River, at the "Bobber Hole" is quieter.
**Always check with the current Michigan DNR Fishing Book for rules, hook sizes for the Bear River**

Yes. If you stay on the paved walkways. Many people of all ages walk it. We took my elderly mom there when we would fish for salmon. She loved it 😍

Flowing from Walloon Lake to Little Traverse Bay, the Bear River is a slow-moving river just under 15 miles in length. A whitewater park was created by adding boulders and other ledges, to make a faster rapids section of the river that extends about a mile long just before emptying into Lake Michigan.
These rapids begin near the bridge over Sheridan Street in Petoskey and can provide a quick burst of adrenaline for thrill-seeking kayakers, said Missy Kruskie of Bahnhof Sport in Petoskey.
