Went after the Nature Center was closed so no one was there. Went out for a hike along the trails to look at the river. Very pretty, well maintained trail, quiet. It was fall so too cold for mosquitoes but I'm guessing it's a nightmare during the spring/summer due to the standing water, be aware. Bathrooms open even though everything else closed, don't know if they stay open all winter or not.

My wife and I visited here on 7/13/17. I'm 100% disabled (Parkinson's) but can use my walking poles slowly. However, did not read any review of this location about the stairs. Thus, those using a walker or wheelchair can't get the great views or hiking an able body people can do. We drove 18 miles and were disappointed.

Beautiful trails, well marked and great for the whole family. I wish we could've checked out the nature center, but it was a holiday and was closed. Looked beautiful though!

We had a great day here! Traveling with a six-year-old, we were excited to be outdoors in the great May weather (despite a few sprinkles, great walking/hiking weather). We also homeschool, and they get top marks for their set of educational backpacks you can check out--i.e. we got "Nature Detective" that had books on animal tracks and scat, binoculars, magnifying glasses and other materials. We spent about a half hour with that (an older kid could potentially do more) and then walked two of the easier trails. Gorgeous scenery, lots of pictures taken, and a perfect chance to get my kid away from electronics and out into the woods. Inside they have a coloring and book area, a collection of mineral and animal specimens and a small store. We spent about 4 hours here (maybe a little more) between trails, backpack activity. (The backpack rental asks for a $5 deposit but they give it back! I let them keep it for a donation--I live in Florida and haven't found a nature center close by with so much cool stuff for kids to experience. Kudos to Boardman for a quality experience.)

The Boardman Nature Center provides a wealth of information for gardeners and everyone interested. Master Gardeners on staff to provide you with all of their knowledge. Classes and events are regularly scheduled.

Really enjoyed walking through this outdoor experience. The smells of the nature trail and easy-to-walk-through paths make it a experience not to miss.

This place is one of the hidden fun places in Traverse City. It's small nature center, but perfect to bring young children. The trails, however, are for all ages and you can spend a great day outside enjoying what nature has to offer. They also have a summer camp for younger children as well.

The Boardman River Nature Center is located within the Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve on Cass Rd. It's worth the effort to visit during the limited hours they are open, but if they are closed it is still a nice place for a picnic in the covered shelter or to just sit on a bench & enjoy the gardens or the view of the river from the observation deck. There are also trail maps for the GTNER trails in a bin near the door.
Inside, visitors learn about the river's past, present & future through exhibits that reflect the season & connect people to the river that made Traverse City. My kids loved the children's programs (check their calendar).
During the summer of 2016 visitors can only reach the Nature Center from the north because Cass Rd is closed at Keystone Rd (to replace the bridge over the river).
This is a wonderful (FREE!) place for kids & adults to visit before hiking the Nature Reserve trails.
Inside, visitors learn about the river's past, present & future through exhibits that reflect the season & connect people to the river that made Traverse City. My kids loved the children's programs (check their calendar).
