The trails were groomed with gravel and that was good. We walked for about an hour as I just had total knee replacement 5 months ago. The trails were right behind our hotel and was easy to get to and back.

The people at this attraction were friendly and helpful. Still, it's no place for solo hikers. The steps had no hand railings for me to hold onto, and I also decided not to walk alone on the flat trail. The only way I could have called for help would have been to press the buttons on my medical alert gear.
Still, it was a perfect opportunity to get outside on a sunny summer day. If I ever return, I may bring a friend or family member.

There are hiking trails for all types of hikers, expert to beginning. The trails are clearly marked to help you navigate and the area is beautiful with lots of interesting wildlife.

Main building was closed and landscape was still dormant from a cold winter’s snooze. Light on wildlife today, in an area you can feel is full and vibrant. Turkeys were busy under the bird feeders.

The area is nice. A big building. There are bird feeders behind it and while I was there a couple wild turkeys were raiding the food. There are trails and a nice overlook. A cool spot.

This is a great place in a middle of the metro area. Peaceful and a great place to walk and stretch your legs. Beautiful views

We rode our bikes there. The hiking is good. The building has lots to look at. The view is beautiful from the deck.

This federal wildlife reserve is bear bones. The Reserve consists of three sections of land - two on the north side of the Minnesota river and one on the south side of it. You can use a pedestrian bridge to traverse between the river sides. The park has a beaten river side path that is used by both bicycles and hikers. The rough, single file nature of the trail adds to the attraction, but it is not for those with mobility issues. The scenery is great and a glimpse of river commerce is available at certain parts.

Really enjoyed the collection of exhibits and animals! Nice place to spend a day and relax! Hope to visit more often in the future!

Most people I saw had their masks and kept socially distanced. The visitor center was closed. Trails were kept clean and clear. I did get mosquito bites. So I’d recommend using bug spray before you go. It was a peaceful place.

I think jackrabbi is right. I also think the hours vary depending on the season. I'd google the refuge and get their website for current info.

When is tick season and is there any such thing as tick spray? Also what is the best brand of mosquito spray to buy before we come, and do mosquitoes fly around morning, noon and night there? We'll be there next week 6/18/15. Also what time does the park open and how early might the deer come out?

Deet is for tick and mosquito spray. Ticks are most active in the spring. Just check yourself when you come in from outside. Behind the ears are quite common for them to burrow. We like OFF Deep Woods. Mosquitoes are generally worse at sundown, but yes, can be out at any time. Deer are the same way, any time, but more often at dusk. Not sure about the hours for the refuge.
