My brother and I were on a road trip returning from skiing in Wyoming, and Detroit Mountain was on or way so we decided to stop in for a couple hours. It may not look like much, and physically with a vertical of around 200', it isn't much. But somehow on that silly little nub of a hill, they have set up a really entertaining little ski area. There's some variety of terrain, some imagination in how they cut the trails, they have a double diamond (it's just a drop-in to a slightly steeper run, but I'll give them credit for it), a couple jumps for tricks, and even some opportunities to practice tree skiing. Yes, you have to do everything in short laps, but a lot of people like to practice that way (ever been to a Lifetime Fitness?)
If you're expecting The Rockies, you probably shouldn't be looking in the Red River Valley. If you're just looking for a place that does what it does well, check this place out.

XC trails were fun, but I came up during the week while the lifts were closed, I knew this but was expecting to be able to ride up then ride down the downhill trails. This is what I always did last summer. But instead I drove all the way up here and then was informed I couldn’t ride the downhill trails.

Nice area. Several different ski hills to pick from. The Chalet is quite large, and had a good amount of seating. Grounds were well kept. Parking is pretty easy to get too.

Great management and facilities. Wonderful options for kids and adults. Many activities are being held there.

I took my 8 yr old grand daughter skiing here recently. The whole staff, from check in to equipment rental,to lift operators, were all so kind, efficient, and patient. WE had a great time. The food was only so -so, thus, I give it a 4 star rating.

I've been here a few times. Awesome place with exemplary service. I would recommend the Mountain to any Family, Event, or Nomad exploring the land of 10,000 lakes.
Some facts for distant reader's:
We have 834 lakes in our County according to lakeplace.com you will not have any problems finding somewhere to swim or fish.
You get fishing licenses at 17 different locations in Becker County out of 17 their are 8 places in Detroit Lakes itself.
An 35,000 people live in Becker County.

O lugar é muito legal. Há atividades de ski no inverno (ainda não fui) e no verão há muitas trilhas para bike ou mesmo para caminhadas. As trilhas são muito bem cuidades e o local é muito bonito. Vale a pena.

First time visiting and loved it. Great for beginners! The lodge is beautiful and staff was friendly.

Detroit Mountain's new tubing area is great fun for the family with kids of all ages. A great way to get outside and enjoy the winter. Seven great runs that are well maintained and fast. A number of them allow up to 4 tubes to go down together. The tubes are really well designed and solid. The two Magic Carpets make getting back up the hill fast and easy. Passes are $15 per person for two hours at full price. Definitely well worth it - our time there just flew by. Friendly staff and great warming hut. Parking lot is literally 50 feet from tubing area. Fantastic addition to Detroit Mountain!

I was skeptical about any mountain bike riding in Detroit Lakes until I found this course. The trails are super flowy and well maintained and groomed. I rode both my Fat tire and regular mountain bike on all the trails. All the trails are well marked and maps are very handy. The downhill trails are super fun but be safe on carrying speed, could be disastrous. The bridge obstacles were unique and made the ride even more thrilling and a rush. So worth the stop!
