Always a gorgeous trip for us in all seasons. Lots of small town places to visit, good restaurants tucked in every corner.

We drove by Lake Pepin. Looks like there is plenty to do on the water here. We saw a lot of recreational boats on the water and people on the beaches. Camping, boat launch and parks throughout, The view and area is beautiful. This would be a fun area for families with children.

Beautiful lake. Nice riverwalk along the shoreline. Great to look out and see various boats and to see Wisconsin across the lake.

If you've ever wondered who was crazy enough to invent water skiing, it was Minnesotan Ralph Samuelson on Lake Pepin. In 1966 the American Water Ski Association officially recognized Lake City (and Lake Pepin) as the birthplace of waterskiing. Samuelson invented waterskiing in 1922 after he invented "aquaplaning" (wakeboarding?) just prior to his 19th birthday. Erroneously, the owner of Cypress Gardens, FL put it about in 1958 (quite a time lag there, buddy) that he had invented waterskiing. Nope.
We visited Lake Pepin and Lake City again in October. On that day, the lake was wild and windy, but beautiful. No one was waterskiing or even nearby as it was blustery, but we walked around and enjoyed the view.

Lake Pepin is a beautiful feature along the Mississippi River between Minnesota and Wisconsin. It is historical as well, and mentioned in state and river literature, and geological studies, but also in the Laura Ingals Wilder Little House series! One can travel both sides of thecLake and find many lovely small towns, shops, and farm stands in season.
Views of the river and bluffs are gorgeous.
It is fun, thrilling, lots of neat places to pull off the road to enjoy views, photo opportunities, and exploring the parks and towns.

Great day trip, nice drive, great sites! We had lunch at Chickadee Cottage Cafe, an eccentric little restaurant with an interesting menu. Stopped by the beautiful Villa Bellazza winery for a glass of wine and meandering around the winery.We where then off to Stockholm Pie for a delicious piece of pie and shopping. Perfect day trip from the Twin Cites!

Lake Pepin is so beautiful and covers a lot of space. So many little piers to walk on and fish and take pictures. Also very calming :)

I drive by Lake Pepin weekly. It is part of the Mississippi River and has a road on both the Minnesota side and Wisconsin side. There are various parks as well.

At this time we were on the Scenic Hwy 61 south of Red Wing in the picturesque town of Lake City right on Lake Pepin which is part of the Mississippi River.
We love to stop at the city park there & watch the sailboats drift by. Lake Pepin is where Ralph Samuelson in 1922 invented the sport of Waterskiing.
The riverside park has plenty of parking & walking paths for everyone to enjoy, and the town of Lake City has plenty of nice Restaurants and Nic Nack shops as well.

Lake Pepin is definitely a dog friendly area. There are also lots of fun shops and parks along the shoreline for children. There are sidewalks all along the shoreline in Lake City that are great for walking a dog as well :)

Yes. Go their website pearl of the lake, limited boat excursions but they go into October
