I had moved out of state several years ago and recently moved back. I was so happy to see that the Vali-hi Drive-in was still in business !!
I'm now a regular movie goer again and we're "trying" to wait patiently for the start of yet another season. We go all summer long!
I sure hope that Lake Elmo realizes how much of a gem they have with one of the very few iconic Drive-in movies left in MN. It's always crowded with happy folks!

We feel so fortunate to have Vali-Hi in our community during these strange pandemic times. Their line up of movies has been great this summer. The distancing adaptations they have put in place enable a safe opportunity for family entertainment! Their concession offerings are outstanding at fair prices; popcorn, candy, and foot long hot dogs have been a few of the hits with our family. Arrive early, bring a card game, football or frisbee for the kids to keep busy with until the movie starts! Can’t wait to return. Heads up - cash only here plan appropriately (there is an ATM on-site too).

I started going there in 2006. My ex would always wait and leave home (Chanhassen) in around 2 hours before the movie started. There were times that the line of cars stretched out for 1/2 mile.
After the divorce, my son and I would show up very early and would try to be the first car in line, or very close to make sure we get a prime spot to watch the movies. We’d go every weekend during the summer.
The only problem with this drive in is the clientele. Lots of white trash, lots of people setting up grills, tables, chairs, some even brought sofas, and lots of people saving spaces for their friends even though the first sign you see after paying admission says, “No saving spaces”.
Plenty of space for kids to play before the movie starts, but some kids are bullies. If you tell some kid to knock it off, you are labeled as being racist.
I went to 2 different drive-in theaters last year. 1 in Connecticut and 1 in Florida. Vali-Hi is by FAR superior to any other drive-in. The concession area is what makes it great. $1 hot dogs, lots of video and pinball games, and even an old picture booth.

This is a great way to bond with other people. I really enjoy the old school feel. Bring a radio of your car speakers are not working. Bring blankets later in summer (early fall) bring some snacks, and buy dollar hotdogs and popcorn.

The price is $1 for kids 12 and under, and $9 for everyone else. There is a concessions stand in the middle. I recommend parking in the first 3 rows because they have speakers you can put in your car. It’s an Awsome experience!

We had been here years ago and had a good experience, so we were super excited to go again. Not sure I can recommend it. The gate oversold and there was no enforcement of their rules. Cars were taking 2 sites, there were others than were filling car parking with their tables & chairs. Things got tense as movie goers fought for position.
It’s expensive at $9.50 pp with no assurance that you’ll be able get a spot to see the show.

The experience itself is great - 3 movies for $10, awesome audio in your car, great views! Details aren’t quite there – bathrooms are so dirty they’re almost unusable, and intermissions between movies are upwards of 15-20 minutes (which gets tough to sit through when the movies already start so late.) We will definitely be back on a night when we don’t have anything to do the next day (and have gone to the bathroom beforehand!!) It really is overall a very pleasant experience.

So excited to have done a family drive-in! Nothing better than cozying up in the back of a pick up! Cheap prices on everything, so very affordable. Long lines for concessions but those individuals worked incredibly fast and hard - they deserve a raise! Bathrooms became really gross quickly and ran out of basics by second movie, so could use some attention throughout the night. Really long intermissions between films which could be much shorter. Security on site but no concerns from us. Definitely recommend!!

We try to get here once each summer as it is a good way to spend a summer evening. It is reminiscent of younger days when their were many drive ins to choose from. It is usually a good mix of families and young kids, mostly well behaved. They have good snacks at the snack bar, the down fall if you stay for all three shows it gets late and you will be tired the next day.

This gem is just outside of St. Paul and the last Drive in in Minnesota. The only downside is that it can get very busy and you can find it full before cars are even being admitted. People line up very early to secure a place - so you have to plan on arriving early. Weekdays are less crowded, but that isn't always the case as kids are out of school during the summer. For just $9.50/person over 12 ($1 for 6-12 and free younger than 6) - you can have a wonderful time with family or friends. There is a nice concession stand - but many bring their own food and beverages in and some even grill. I recommend bringing lawn chairs and bug spray for the mosquitos..... It is always on our to-do list for outings during the summer together!

It really depends on the weather in Minnesota. They make a different call as to when to open every year. This year they opened April 26th.

Yes (according to other sites) but for my preference only bring good dogs.
Can you show up after the first movie if you only want to see the last 2?

I saw many people doing this. So many people leave after the first kid friendly option that sounds like a good plan!
