‪We were able to visit Tte Bakken Museum before it closed again to install a new exhibit. We had to reserve tickets so they can limit the capacity of the museum. Tickets are only about $5. There is an exhiit about electricity that is hands on and interesting for kids. The garden is very nice and has lots of medicinal plants growing. The old part was the home of the Bakken family and has lots of old woodwork and stairs everywhere. It will be reopening October 8.‬

‪Two grandparents, two kids age 9 & 12, and we really enjoyed the visit. The hands on displays were fun for all of us. The price is right, low crowd on the Saturday after Halloween, definitely a fun way to spend a couple of hours. We would go back again in the future.‬

‪I went here on a whim, on a sleety, gross Saturday morning. I figured it was something interesting to do indoors, but I was let down. The front desk staff was super nice, and so was the gentleman working in the kids crafts area! But the museum is tiny, and there are very few rooms/exhibits - maybe 6 rooms? I was excited at first, because I teach Frankenstein, and they had an area dedicated to Shelley's book. It was also underwhelming. They say they have a lot of field trip groups, but I can't imagine kids being occupied for more than 30 minutes in that place. Unless they do a bunch of extra activities for kids? At any rate, I would not recommend adults going.‬

HeatherMarie6 - We are so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your trip to the museum. While we have a range of interactive exhibits for adults and children, we understand a small museum experience is not for everyone. We are excited to share that we will be undergoing major exhibit and building renovations in 2020 and hope you will give our updates a chance!

‪I had never even heard of Bakken Museum and was invited to join a group of other families with special needs kids. It was fantastic. The staff were accommodating, everything is handicapped accessible, the tour guide was incredibly interesting and made learning fun. I would recommend it for any age from 5-105. Fascinating!‬

‪My daughter told me about this museum which features electricity and some history of inventions with medical electricity. We took our 9 year old grandson and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There were multiple hand and interactive activities. We are looking forward to taking other grandchildren there.‬

‪We visit Minneapolis regularly and discovered the bakken museum on our last trip and were thrilled to visit it again over spring break. I honestly don’t know how people say it only takes them an hour to get through, we were there for 5.5 hours. We spent almost two hours on the first floor alone. The paper studio and section on prosthetic limbs were a nice addition and we love the hands on aspects of the museum. It’s half the price of the science museum and with three kids I find it less stressful as the smaller museum means I worry less about them getting lost in the crowd. Generally the staff and volunteers there are amazing and so wonderful with my kids with the exception of one volunteer who got fristrated with my autistic son for touching something that apparently wasn’t supposed to be touched (which was odd as there were no signs there like the rest of the museum). Parking is free and generally there are lots of spaces and I think some street parking is available. There is not a Cafe or restaurant but you can leave at come back if you want (there are a few coffe shops and restaurants 5-10 mins away) and they have indoor classrooms you can eat a bag lunch in though in warmer months there are some lovely spots for picnics outside. The Frankenstein lab is probably not suitable for younger children as it’s a little intense but the rest of the Frankenstein room is interesting for them. My kids also love the static electricity room upstairs. The house itself is beautiful and I imagine the gardens would be lovely to walk around in the summer.‬

‪This was started by one of the founders of Medtronic. It does not take much time to go through the place especially in the winter when the garden is closed (half hour to an hour). It is more for kids but enough activities for adults. There is a lot of reading on the first floor. There was a lot about electronic device and some interactive devices that were neat including guiding a ball with your alpha waves. There is an exhibit about Frankenstein which is thought provoking but probably boring to the kids. There is an activity section where children and adults can build things with paper. You may miss it but there is on the wall to the top floor a wall exhibit about plants and medicines (which is what the garden is about). There is a larger activity that changes. The one for the month I went there was on statistics, not something I was interested in. The top floor were rooms left as they were when it had occupants with a library on Benjamin Franklin and some of his experiments..‬

‪Hi, I recently visit this museum with other students that are young. I loved the tour and products available for tourists to experience, however , I felt the customer service could be better.

I didn’t like it how kids were bunched into one lounge that didn’t have enough tables/seatings for everyone during lunch. The kids and adults had to sit on the floor (which seems dirty to me). Also, the volunteer staff who toured us seem like she didn’t like children. She was quite rude. We had three other people we dealt with, only two of them I enjoyed listening to and seeing, I think their names were Deb and Emily? They seem great with children and made the experience fun.

I think maybe what the Bakken Musuem could do is either limit the number of classes attending in a day there, or maybe have staff switch out every different exhibit tours, to reduce stress. Kids are not easy to deal with, and it was very unfortunate that some of the students didn’t get to try some products because there were too many of them and not enough time. I felt like we were rushed, but I can see why.

Also, tips? If you plan to come there with big school group, and eat there? Either bring your own hand soap or go wash your hands at restrooms. They didn’t have hand soap available at the sink in the lounge and they allowed the kids to wash their hands there????!

Other than that, great museum! Very educational.

‪The Bakken museum allows to explore the history of electricity and electromagnetism in a fun way, appealing to children. The exhibits pesent not just the science center, but the social aspect of electricity - the use of it in medicine. The building itself is quite interesting.‬
