‪Sadly, this venue is now closed. There are other trail riding opportunities available in the Branson Area but Uncle Ike's was a real treat. I don't know if the owner retired or not but his venue is no longer located where it had been.‬

‪After years of serving the Branson area, Uncle Ike's closed for good in 2015. The abandoned property is for sale. Another horse ride is available at Shepherd of the Hills which is just east of Uncle Ike's on 76 Highway. If riding nonexistent horses through trails filled with tall grass appeals to you, then go ahead and visit this attraction anyway. Please note that I was forced to choose when I visited below, even though I really didn't sit in an empty parking lot and enjoy the bugs.‬

‪Our teenaged daughter with mild developmental delays became frightened after getting on her horse and began to cry quietly. We had not begun the trail ride yet. My husband saw the tears coming down her face and got off of his horse and went to get our daughter off of hers. The woman stomped over to get our daughter off of the horse and said to my husband, “You know we can’t give you any refunds?” Once I realized what was going on I volunteered to stay with our daughter while my husband went on the trail ride with our other daughter. As I was getting off of my horse the same woman stomped my way and said, “This isn’t safe. My horses don’t understand this. This isn’t safe.” I’m not sure what her safety concerns were as they simply took off on their trail ride after my daughter’s horse and my horse were removed from the group. She took an already sad and disappointing moment for our family and injected unnecessary shame and drama into the situation. Our daughter had so looked forward to this experience but due to her developmental delays struggled to process through her fear. We would have truly appreciated a little more compassion and understanding.‬

‪This place is very very unprofessional. We traveled around 5 hours for vacation in Branson and one girl in our group was very excited to go horseback riding. First of all, don't look at their website because it doesn't clearly explain their "rules." So on our last day in Branson we planned to go horseback riding and then head home. We get there and the appearance of the place is very trashy looking, but we headed up to the ticket booth and we stood up there for about 20 minutes and the man yelled at us to move out of the way when no one was even standing in the way of the riders coming. The old lady finally comes into the booth to help us and she asks very rudely how many people we had, 3 adults and 1 child, then she asked "how tall are you? Did you read the rules?" We had all read the rules while we were standing there waiting for her to come help us, but the rules are WAY too confusing to begin with and very unclear. She continued to ask us all if we had read the rules and told all of us to step on the scale. After 3 of us had been weighed she said "you can't ride." As we had to turn around in front of all the people in line and the people already on the horses and walk back to the car and leave. Pure humiliation. I would never recommend this place to anyone. If you're going to run a business don't be a snob. ‬

‪Loved it took my family and i had my three kids with me my youngest is 4 so she rode with me Absolutely loved it the people that worked there are friendly and helpful. The male ranch hand even double checked my saddle and made sure i was 100% comfortable before sending my daughter and I on the trail. My 4 year old said multiple times how much fun she had. The female ranch hand that took us on the trail was great helping everyone telling them what to expect and what to do as we maneuvered the trail‬

‪The grey haired old bag at the register was incredibly rude. We arrived with a group of 3 adults and 3 children. We chose this place over the nearby one many other reviewers mention because this one will allow children as young as 6 to ride on the trail ride and we had a 7 year old with us. We approached old bag and said we had 3 adults and 3 kids. She pointed to something she called the rules and said "the rules". Ok we read the rules. They say max weight was 235 lbs. OK. We are under the max. But then they go on to say it is derated by height? What!? We have grown up around horses and rode horses most of our lives and never ever heard of such a thing. We say yes we read the rules. She came out with reigns in her hands beating them into her palm and approached my friend and and said "the rules" my friend said "yes. We see there are rules. I don't understand what you mean" Then the old goat said "look. How tall are you. My friend said 5'-2" and the old bag nastily pointed at her and said pretty loudly so others could hear "you clearly weigh more than 150 lbs." really? So you are saying we are too fat you rude nasty old bi**h? For what it's worth none of us adults met their skinny people requirements. And frankly we are not severely overweight. A little extra sure but we are not obese. I wear a size 10-12 and am 5-6. I am pretty solid build and much heavier than I appear. So let me say this. If you are between 5-2 and 5-6 you must weigh less than 170. Under 5-2 less than 150. And men get a 10 lb credit - and if you don't meet this you will have to move on. They will make you step on a scale to prove your weight. I say just skip it entirely unless you want some nasty rude old bi**h to ridicule you for your weight. Wish we had read trip adviser before going. Could have saved us all the humiliation. We don't go on vacation to be humiliated by someone the likes of her. ‬

‪Uncle Ike's Trail Ride is a business that, first and foremost, takes care of the >>horses<<. That is why the women who owns and runs it is adamant about making certain that the riders are of a weight the horses can carry. That is why the woman doesn't rotate the horses into trail ride.after trail ride without making certain the animals are hydrated and rested between rides. That is why, while she won't win any Miss Congeniality Awards, you can know her animals will be carefully and lovingly cared for and no one is going out who doesn't or cannot behave with proper appreciation for the welfare of the horses.

The property is... rough. There are no amenities: no air conditioned bathrooms (no bathrooms at all!) or waiting areas other than two ancient picnic tables under a tree. Once you've looked at the old post office building and the church on the property, there is nothing left to see but horses. However, my daughter is a vet tech and was impressed by the way the horses were cared for.

The woman in charge is also a bit rough, but she is ALL about the well-being of her horses and not about touchy-feely marketing. She wants a safe, satisfying experience for everyone - including the animals - and is all about that goal. To that end, she'll keep an eye on customers' weights and will so so without hesitation or shyness, so be prepared.

The three men who work the horses were all very nice - although ruthless about safety! They are especially friendly and patient with children. All in all, it was an interesting experience and we were all glad we chose Ike's.

Tidbits of information:
Rides go out about every 60 to 90 minutes and last about 40 minutes. The horses are rested and hydrated between rides.
While we waited, we got to watch the farrier hoof a horse (although he wasn't there to entertain us; he was working hard!)
They start rides at 8:30am, which is different from the website information.
If you want the $10 "pony" ride on the big horses for the little ones, they tend to do that between trail rides, so plan accordingly. The pony ride lasts about 5 minutes.
Wear close-toed shoes - there will be horse manure!‬

‪We parked and were walking up to the ticket booth and got yelled at by a ranch hand to move because a trail ride was coming through the yard. We were no where near the trail. Ok. Then we made it up to the booth and the unpleasant lady rudely told us to read all the rules. I guess I didn't read fast enough for her, so she directed me to read the right side rules. The maximum weight to ride a horse is 235 which I am well under, but the weight limits go way down the shorter you are. The unpleasant lady made sure to let me know I was too heavy for a horse ride. We immediately left and went to a different horse ride company and I was more than welcomed there. I have ridden horses all my life and they never seem to have a problem hauling me at my current weight. We highly discourage anyone from using this company unless you are stick thin. Go to Dogwood Canyon or Bear Creek Trail.‬

‪This lady should not be in business. We went with a group of five. My daughter is short and stocky and was asked to get on a scale. Is this the 1800's? Why wasnt she flogged in the town square? This lady has the bedside manner of nurse wratchet! Its hard to believe that these people would still be in business. If there is any way I could sue them (and I may still try) I would. This lady embarrassed and humiliated my daughter making her cry and ruining her whole vacation. Not to mention doing some serious damage to her self esteem. Run away and drive the other direction from this business. You cant fix ignorance! No one should ever have to endure this treatment in their lifetime. If I could give them a negative 29 I would. Hope to see this closed down by the end of the season.‬

‪Highly recommend Uncle Ike's. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The horses are loved and taken care of. They were very gentle and looked happy and healthy. We would love to ride again when we return the summer of 2017. ‬
