This was our final stop along Route 66 as we headed across country. We went into this Visitor's Center blind as to what it signified. The staff (Jan) was extremely knowledgeable and discussed the history of Times Beach, its unfortunate demise, and the future of the Route 66 bridge.
The Visitor's Center has a very large gift shop of Route 66 memorabilia, a nice museum and 3D model of Times Beach, and clean bathrooms.
This is a great place to see a piece of Route 66 history from a local perspective (vice the Route itself).
Outside the Visitor's Center is an original neon sign from the Key Cafe and a fee info placards about the "Save the Bridge" campaign.
You are unable to cross the bridge, as it does not exist at this time (Aug 2023).

The park is divided by the Meramac River and there’s currently no bridge between the two sections, so the different parts of the park have to be accessed from different exits on I44. We only visited the museum side of the park, but greatly enjoyed it. The museum is a converted roadhouse that contains lots of history about Route 66 as well as the former town of Times Beach. There’s also a gift shop and restrooms. Admission is free. There’s currently an effort underway to restore the Meramac River bridge, which will connect the two sections of the park.

It is a great place to bring a family without being in crowds. Bicycling is safe as well as hiking or running.

What a great park! The visitor center evidently opened at 10am today (Sunday) so I recommend you call ahead considering everything else said 9am but you can always walk the trails and enjoy the scenery in the meantime. They have a museum section in the visitor center and a gift shop. We were there approximately an hour at the visitor center plus the time to drive/walk/take pictures of the area. The woman in the visitor center was very nice and had lots of information as well. This was worth the wait to open and I’m glad we did.

We came for the visitor centre, which also has a great museum and some out-of-the-ordinary souvenirs.
The ranger was very welcoming and full of great information on the whole of Route 66.
Not far off the main road and well worth an hour or so.

Near blast through Route 66 history. There’s a gift shop and a lot of Route 66 artifacts in a nice museum. It’s kind of hard to find so use a GPS.

I am now 65 years old. When I was a girl, my parents would bring me to Steiny's Inn every year for my birthday lunch. In subsequent years, Steiny's Inn changed hands several times, and eventually close. But now that same in has been repurposed as the Visitors Center and Museum for Route 66! I spent almost 2 hours studying every photo, every relic, and every write-up. I grinned the entire time!

We arrived at the Visitors Center mid day, and were warmly greeted. The Rt. 66 memorabilia is mostly local, and very well displayed. They also have a large gift shop. This is worth a stop.

Lots of interesting memorabilia to see in this small museum. The park was not as enjoyable, but it was a wet and rainy day, so that did not help, but the museum was worth the visit.

This park has two sections. The eastern side has an old roadhouse that's been converted into a great visitors center, with a nice exhibit on Route 66 in the area and the former town of Times Beach on the other side of the river. The staff there is great--extremely helpful. There's also a large gift shop featuring Route 66 souvenirs. You can also see the remains of a 1932 bridge that once crossed the river; most of it has been dismantled because of safety concerns. The western side is the site of the former town of Times Beach, leveled in the 1980s because of toxic waste in the soil. Read up on Times Beach's story before you go, so you can fully appreciate this tragedy. Today the site is a forested park with --you'd never know a town was once there, except for a large grass-covered mound that holds the remains of the town's buildings and infrastructure. Unfortunately, with the bridge dismantled, you have to take a roundable route of several miles to get to the western side of the park. It's worth it--a very memorable stop on our Route 66 roadtrip.
