My husband and I hadn't heard about this museum before. It showed up on a TripAdvisor list of top things to do in KC. It is chock full of miniatures and toys. The miniatures really are amazing and I would suggest seeing the toys upstairs first so the quality of the toys isn't a disappointment after the miniatures.

What an interesting place! The large amount of items was amazing. Such intricate details. So fun to see the old toys from childhood!

The quality and breadth of the collection of miniatures was fabulous. This is reported to be the largest collection of miniatures in the country. The artistry was amazing down to tiny pianos that can be played and very small chests of drawers where each drawer can be opened and closed.

The museum is bright and modern, with excellent displays that really let the patrons learn and experience the collections. I really liked the toys, seen on the upper floor, presented by era and by themes. The miniatures were overwhelming, tiny works of art and history. The Barbies and Hot Wheels were fun. The small collection of primitive video game consoles was a sweet touch.

Fantastic museum full of wonderful toys and incredible miniatures. The dollhouses were also a treat! Beautiful design, modern and clean. Good access plus nice restroom facilities. This is a great stop while in Kansas City.

It is a very nice building and everything is more like a gallery. We felt underdressed in our t-shirts. Super affordable price of admission is only $5. The miniatures are incredible and there are soooooo many. It was definitely different than what I expected from reading about in a travel book. They do have a scavenger hunt for the kids to do to win a prize, which helped get them involved seeing more of it.

The miniatures were incredible. So many to look at. Crazy that they have micro mini miniatures with microscopes to look through. Loved all the themes.
Toy section was upstairs and in our opinion was weak.

Extensive collection of miniatures on the first floor and toys on the second floor. The miniatures were so detailed and unique. Really works of art. And seeing all the toys was so much fun. I kept thinking that I had one of those about a million years ago.

It was a great walk down memory lane rediscovering some of the toys of our youth, as well as those of our children. The museum is well designed, offering two floors of artifacts and miniatures. The miniature section is wonderful, almost inconceivable how they are constructed and assembled by truly gifted craft people. Start your journey watching the movie on the genesis of the museum which starting with two collectors. The movie will better prepare you for your self guided wondering and wandering tour. A gift shop is available with - what else "toys"! On our day, we were alerted by an alarm, apparently pulled by a child, causing the building to be evacuated. Not only did we get a great experience from the museum collections, we were treated to see KC's finest in action clearing the building!

The gift shop was very small and mostly had toys for purchase. I’m not exactly sure if they had magnets but I feel pretty confident in saying no, they don’t.

Honestly it really depends on the kid. You can't play with the things, just look at them. I'd say at least 8 but I think it will appeal to adults (with the intricacy of the miniatures) more than younger kids.

How long does it take to view the museum

That depends on your level of interest. A quick tour only looking and not reading probably 45 minutes to an hour, but if you get immersed in what you are seeing and watch the artists videos or play the scavenger game allow two hours to three. Some of the miniatures are marvels and you have a hard time believing the painstaking work of those who created them.

We are open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm.
Do you have a book available for purchase in which the items in the museum are displayed. I visited the museum as part of a UFDC tour in July prior to your opening. I was very impressed and hope to visit again some day.
