Being from Memphis I have seen the Mississippi at Memphis, St. Louis and Cape Girardeau. This vista sits atop a very high earthen flood wall. There is a nice boardwalk overlook that gives a nice long view of the river. Both times I have been there barges were VERY close and you could get ann idea of what they looked like and how they worked.

We stopped here on our trip from St Louis to Memphis as its just 1.5 mi off of I-55. This unique teardrop of land is formed by a tight loop of the river and protrudes into KY from TN. Its historical;
-New Madrid was founded in 1783 by the Spanish and named after Madrid, Spain.
-1811 earthquake was centered here.
-In 1862, the North captured 3 generals, 273 officers, 6,700 privates, 123 pieces of artillery and lots of ammo in a huge defeat for the Confederates.
Even with misty weather it was a great stop.

Lots of info here to start your New Madrid Tour. Great vantage point to see the Mississippi and across the river to Tennessee and Kentucky. The NM museum is right across the street which is a must see. Deck is beautifully decorated for Christmas.

This is an amazing view of the river. The earthquake in the early 1800’s changed the course of the river and you look out at Kentucky at this point

It's worth the trip to see where it all happened and imagine what it would have been like for the people living back then. I recommend stopping here to have a look if you've never been and are in or traveling through the area.

This is a nice little park along the river. The observation deck takes you out over the water and there is a trail that runs right along the levee that’s perfect for a little stroll. Info about the areas roll in the Trail of Tears can be found along the trail. Lots of history to be discovered.

Absolutely love it worth the drive if your not from the area, i can not get enough of this place great place to enjoy solo or with family. BEAUTIFUL!

Just a very short walk from downtown to this deck. Great view, big catfish tournament tomorrow, will come back for the weigh in. Could see 40 to 50 pound catfish then. Looking for forward to it.

I've always been fascinated by earthquakes and geology, making the town of New Madrid one of my many bucket list destinations. Knowing I was standing on the fault line, that released (and hopefully it won't again for a long time) such incredible power. The view of the Mississippi was great, and reading the plaques was informative. I stopped in at the museum, to purchase a book on the earthquakes in New Madrid's history. That is also worth the visit.

After visiting the museum we went up the hill to the observation deck which had not been cleaned of bird droppings in a while. You get a view of the river but the surroundings are not much to see.

Was New Madrid right on the riverfront 16 Dec., 1811, when first quake occurred? Or some distance away? Thank you. On bucket list to visit.

You will get correct answer from museum they have amazing things there! And besure to opt for the 2 movies!!! It sure is beautiful here!!!
