this museum is a must see, WOW what a well-planned exhibit. From the early times of the Native Americans and what they had to work with well preserved and documented. If you are in Branson this is a MUST see.

We found out about this museum by watching the lodge offerings on tv. The place is amazing. You could spend days in here and never see everything. They have the largest collection of Native American artifacts in the country, maybe even the world. They have everything from ancient mammal skeletons to Abraham Lincoln's hat to signed photographs of movie stars. It really is worth visiting and a nice way to spend the afternoon. Worth the price of admission.

Very well done museum. Vast number of indian artifacts from many different tribes. beautiful art. I feel like I have better insight into lifestyles of the past. The skeletons and displays of ancient Ozark animals is incredible. Staff was very friendly. They brought a wheelchair for our 75 yr old mom (who has limited mobility) when she had trouble making it through. Also memorabilia from tv cowboys. We really enjoyed this museum.

Part of the package deals with the Big Cedar app. Expect to spend several hours touring the museum. Tremendously educational and insightful about the Table Rock and Branson area history. Anything that Johnny Morris touches is amazingly well done.

My husband & I recently drove from our home in southeastern PA to OKC for a week; on our way back home, we spent a few days in Springfield, MO. In addition to visiting the Wonders of Wildlife (reviewed separately), we drove down to see this museum on the grounds of Top of the Rock. Although it was late December, we enjoyed the scenic drive down and the nice grounds and views at this facility. Upon arrival, we paid an entrance/parking fee and then took the complimentary shuttle from the welcome center to the museum, which has a separate admission charge.
As other reviewers have noted, this museum is an unexpected delight; we were very impressed by the size and scope of its collections. There is gallery after gallery packed with items pertaining to the people and wildlife of the Ozarks area, the Wild West, cowboys, the Civil War, and more. The amount of Native American artifacts alone amassed by Johnny Morris, including arrowheads, spearheads, axe heads, utensils, pottery, clothing, and more, is quite remarkable. Throughout the museum is beautiful artwork as well. All in all, we spent 90 minutes in the museum.
We visit a lot of museums on our travels (especially history and natural history ones), and we thought that this facility easily rivals any big-city museum we’ve visited. (It definitely holds its own with nearby ones like the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Woolaroc in OK, in our view.) We were surprised to find a museum of this caliber in such a remote location (a beautiful area), and we were certainly glad we sought it out.

As a lifelong Missouri resident, I want to Thank You, Mr. Morris. What you have painstakingly assembled in the specially designed and maintained basement of your absolutely beautiful and unique Top of the Rock facility is World Class. It is a Missouri/National treasure. It succeeds in respectfully and honorably remembering and recognizing America's Native Americans in their interaction with natural history and America's occupation if this land.
Job well done great and honorable Sir. God Bless!

As an adult the museum was interesting. However we traveled with small children. The museum and museum staff are definitely not children friendly. They should warn you of this fact when you purchase an explorer pass. We probably wouldn’t have purchased one had we known how hateful they would be to our small children at this museum.

Is the museum's viewpoint of history from an evolutionary standpoint?

No. It begins with Native American settlements.

Last year we did the Lost Canyon Nature Trail in the carts. I wanted to walk around and see the restaurants and the beautiful grounds. They said I had to buy the museum ticket to see anything else. I would like to see more but it isn't clear what you need.

You do not have to have tickets to go see the restaurant and general area. However, since most of the golf course is part of the gold cart tour, you do have to pay to see that. We bought the combo ticket (at a discounted rate somehow) and took our 4 year old on the self guided tours. WELL worth it if you haven't been. If you don't spend money on anything else while you are there...do this!! The paddle boats and canoes are free. Depending on the time of year, the lazy river could be open. Lots of pools, the lake, fishing, historical buildings, hiking trails, the Buzzard Bar (trust me, just go...just for the music). Once you pay to get past the guard shack, that $10 goes towards your tickets to the tour or museum. The museum is huge and has some great artifacts. I mean, since you are paying $10 to get in, you might as well spend it on something.
