‪My wife and I and our two children went on President’s Day weekend and it was the highlight of our trip. Aaron was our guide and you could really tell how much he loved the dogs.

I drove one of the sleds and my wife and children rode in the sled. It was a bit nerve wracking but the staff provided excellent instruction and we felt safe.

The scenery and the experience was breathtaking and this was the most enjoyable excursion we’ve even done on a vacation. My kids fell in love with the dogs and we will definitely come back if we’re in the Big Sky area.‬

‪I will say there were moments of joy during our adventure, but I advise to look in another direction for your safety and you will likely only experience joy verses fear, pain and disappointment with it.

You walk into a situation paying a GOOD amount of money and you place trust in a service provider. Keep that in mind as I describe a situation I wish I had more distrust in when it was happening.

Walk up to a couple of trucks. Dogs in kennels and outside but leashed up tightly to the trucks. As more people arrive, the dogs get overly excited and begin to express that very loudly. There were 7 sleds and each sled held 10 dogs. One instructor started to give instructions while 70 dogs were barking/howling. He also mentioned that 3 sleds would need drivers as they did not have enough guides for all of the sleds. Each guide would be between the sleds giving guidance and everything will be awesome. My fiance volunteered to be a driver.

All of the guests were asked to assist getting the dogs leashed up to the sleds. The dogs that came out of the kennels immediately had to pee. I am talking long pees, like I have been holding that too long kind of pee. Anyway, we get them all hooked up and take off. Going up the mountain was awesome. We loved it! Then we have our little break before going down. Hot chocolate and cookie were delicious, however I wish I paid more attention to all of the jokes I was hearing about people flying off of the sleds...

We get back in the sled. Dogs have been removed to slow down the sled going down. These dogs can reach speeds of 35-45 mph on their own so down hill it can get really fast! We were excited to get going and noticed one dog was left off leash and was running close to our sled dogs. That dog picked a fight with a dog leashed up to our sled and almost caused us to go off track. My fiance forced the break and the guide came to take the loose dog. We start again and luckily survive a very tight corner going directly down immediately after. The break did not do enough to slow the sled and we were off course for 2 seconds long enough to ram into a tree stump. My fiance flew over the sled and lands on the stump. The guide comes and says on his walkie, "it is the stump again"(it had happened before!!). The owner arrived on a snowmobile and started blaming my fiance for not breaking. He defended himself, " I had both feet like I was told and standing straight up!" The owner says the sled is fine so we keep going. WELLLL, it wasn't. Sled started rolling to the right on a turn, and my fiance falls off then my 12 year old and myself are in a sled going who knows how fast with no driver down this mountain. Instinct told me to try and roll the sled to get us out. it slowed us enough for them to catch us. We were hooked up to a snowmobile and that was how we got back.

The owner joked as we went to close out that our unplanned part of the adventure doesn't cost us extra. At the time I wanted to leave. We all just survived something very traumatic that was my idea and we were hungry. I also felt bad about the sled so we paid and left.

After the adrenaline stopped running through my veins I could feel my whiplash. It was horrible. Also, my fiance had a big black bruise on his side from landing on stump. It was late, but I realized that the establishment could do way more to ensure the safety of its patrons. You cannot have people sign waivers saying that you are not liable, but also not really put them in a safe environment that they have no knowledge about. You need to truly care about their safety.

I had been dog sledding before. A guide was with our group the entire time. We did not ride in the sled but on a four wheeler behind as each person had a chance to drive the sled after in depth instruction. Pick your company wisely or you might end up going to the Orthopedist like I did.‬

‪If a person wants a good adventure for the winter, dog sledding with Spirit of the North Sled Dog Adventures. I went with a friend we had so much fun. The crew was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable before we started our ride. We had Bailey as our guide and she was most informative about the care of the dogs, the love of the dogs that she has, and history about dog sledding. Bailey encouraged my friend and I both to drive the sled and it was really fun to do. It was a beautiful day and Bailey pointed out some nice places to take pictures and when to video the ride. The dogs were very friendly but so anxious to run and do their job. Hot chocolate and homemade cookies was a nice treat half way through the ride. This is an adventure of a life time that needs one needs to do.‬

‪We spent one night in Big Sky and did the 9:30am dog sled adventure. What a treat! Manny, our sled guide, was great - knowledgeable, fun and encouraging. The dogs were extremely good natured, liked to be petted when not pulling the sled (which they truly seem to love!). Learned a lot about the dogs and what it takes to care for them. We had a beautiful day - cold and light snow. My friend drove the sled for a bit and I (due to an injured knee) was finally encouraged at the end to try it ... very fun. Would definitely do it again.‬

‪The dog sledding experience was one of our best Big Sky memories!! The entire staff, especially Tucker, were just a delight. We loved interacting with the dogs, learning about dog sledding and pretending to be a musher for the morning. Thank you all so much - we will be back!!‬

‪Wow. Where do I begin? The well kept and well loved dogs, the knowledgeable team, the wonderful woman who I spoke with on the phone, or the hot chocolate? Had an amazing time today dog sledding. Ever since being obsessed with the Iditarod in Alaska growing up in NYC, that was unrealistic. Today my dreams came true. Shoutout to the dope dogs for killing it and Chanz ( Chance: my Homeward Bound reference). You should visit, one, two, three times or hell, whenever you can.‬

‪This was the BEST dog sledding we have ever experienced!!! We were allowed to help get the dogs ready for sledding and we were even allowed to be mushers on our own sled! WOW! The sledding and mushing were thrilling and the surroundings unbelievably beautiful. All the guides were amazing, Tucker, Chance, Manny, Kurt, were all wonderful, knowledgable and so very nice. The dogs are healthy, and happy, they obviously love what they do. We will definitely plan on going back to MT again to dog sled with Spirit of the North Sled Dog Adventures

‪Truly a great time. Views were incredible, ride was exciting, staff were top notch, and the dogs are awesome. Call the main number and you will likely reach Connie. She provides all the support you need, especially when it comes to directions—A+ customer service.

Once you get out there, you meet with the staff and get outfitted with more cold gear if necessary. The team encourages you to get familiar with the dogs. There is opportunity to drive the sled which is a real thrill. You will get some quality instruction before stepping off. At the half way point, the team breaks out hot chocolate and cookies- very nice touch.

Overall experience: Stellar!

Keep up the great work Spirit of the North!

‪We were booked to go dog sledding on December 22nd. We received a call the day before saying that there was not enough snow for sledding but that we could go ‘sledding’ in ATV’s that the dogs ‘pulled’. We were quite hesitant and really bummed out but my family was dying to see the dogs so we decided to go for it and we sure are glad that we did!!!! We got there a bit early and were able to play with the dogs. They were absolutely adorable, well cared for and so happy to be there doing what they loved!!!! The ride in the ATV was fun and the scenery was gorgeous and we were able to stop mid way for cookies and hot chocolate. We took a ton of pictures! The guides were all knowledgeable and so personable and made it such a fun afternoon! Can’t wait to do it again and try out the sleds! Highly recommend! ‬
