Caras Park is at the center of enjoying a variety of outdoor activities while visiting downtown Missoula, Montana! At the center is a carousel and a large climbing structurefor kids. Take a lovely walk along the Clark's Fork River and watch adventurous people surf or boogie board kayak the river rapids. On Wednesday's in the summer from 11:00-2:00 there are a dozen food trucks to choose lunch from while listening to live musical entertainment!

Beautiful park on the riverfront. Entertainibg to watch the surfers and kayakers in the Clark Fork River. Farmers marker thwre on Saturday.

missoula parks are disgusting, this is one filthy city with empty beer cans, drug paraphernalia , people begging, feces all over the park. Missoula parks are disgusting, dogs off leashes.

Nice park along the river. We were only in town for a brief stop to stretch our legs. We walked the path along the river, enjoying the scenery. There was a band playing music in the pavilion. Food trucks were available. Too bad we weren't there at meal time. I love a good food truck. The carousel was closed. Possibly because we were there early in the morning, mid-week?

Went with our grandchildren, which they frequent, and it was delightful. Right by the Clark fork River and the carousel (which is closed). Plenty of Paid parking available. While take a walk on the path by Clark fork River. It is very enjoyable and watch the surfers surf.

Fantastic river view. Enjoyed watching people canoeing, surfing. Absolutely beautiful!!! Park benches available to enjoy the river. Nice area to take a leisurely walk.

This was a busy park on a Sunday afternoon with children and adults kayaking in the rapids.
Other families were lounging around the pavilion, enjoying the sun.

We decided to take a stroll through Caras Park and along the river. The walkway is nice and affords a nice, even surface for people, bikes, etc. There's a small deck overlooking Brennan's wave where you can watch kayakers and surfers. It's fun to watch. Beyond this almost everything else was closed due to COVID 19. There were no events and the carasoul was closed too.

Depending on when you visit, you may or may not find special activities at Caras. This is a gathering area for all kinds of events through the year. Concerts, beer festivals, margarita festivals, and a weekly market (part of the year).
During the summer, catch Out To Lunch on Wednesdays with local bands playing for lunch goers (bring your own or buy from one of the many local vendors). Downtown Tonight is the same kind of attraction on Thursday evenings. Many local bands fight to get time on this stage. Only one band plays per session, so check the schedule on-line.
For a more peaceful outing, wander along the river-side trail. The Clark Fork River runs through Missoula, and the trail is a great way to see that river up close. Try Brennan's Wave, a man-made rapid in the river right at the Caras Park pavilion. During the summer, visitors can almost always find someone kayaking, surfing, or even body surfing the wave. Or, try it for yourself (not recommended for beginners).
Caras Park is right down town, so you will find plenty to do in local shops, restaurants, breweries, and distilleries.

This is a unique gem at the Caras Park. There is a hand carved organ for music, hand crafted horses on the carousel and a dragon-themed playground for the kiddies. A small museum tells the history of the carousel and an attached gift shop has gift cards and post cards with pix of the horse that you rode on! Don't miss this historic and fun stop on your trip through Missoula. Well worth the visit and quite inexpensive.

Is there a free place to park at caras park?

Not that I know of unless you park on the street. There are lots of parking spots at the park, which I think runs about a $1.00 an hour.
