‪Nebraska's lack of trees caused hardship for settlers. They resorted to building their homes with sod. This sod house was built in 1954 and reopened under new ownership in 2021. World's Largest Plow, a life-size bison made of 4.5 miles and Native hunting on horseback made of 3 miles of barbed wire. Red barn is a museum and small gift shop. There is a box that you can make a donation. The woman in the red barn was very informative. She also gave us a take out menu for a local restuarant.....my husband was looking for some fried chicken. Located not far from I80. Ample parking including for RVs.‬

‪It's great too see how sod houses were built; didn't even know that was a thing. The 'museum' is closed but one can walk around the house.

‪Some 4 years ago new owners bought this property and have really fixed it up. Inside the entrance building are artifacts and as small gift shop. Out back is the sod house, which visitors can enter. Additionally there is a buffalo and Indian on a horse all made from barbed wire. Free and fun. Thank you to the new owners who obviously care about the property.‬

‪My husband and I were excited to see the museum open. We were greeting by a very sweet lady who shared photos and historical facts about the Sod House. We then toured the Sod House which really reflects how hard the pioneers had to work to make a homestead. We happily signed the guest book and left a donation to keep the museum going. They are pet friendly and have a few picnic tables out back near the sculptures. The little coffee shop next door has sandwiches and malts , of which you can bring over and enjoy at the picnic tables. We will be sure to stop by again as the museum continues to grow.‬

‪If you like interesting sites as you travel, this is certainly worth a few minutes of your time. Close to the highway and neat to see how homes were made in primitive days. Also had the “World’s Largest Plow” in the same location. Also, barbed wire sculptures. ‬

‪It was closed when we stopped in March. It was right off the interstate and worth a stop. There are also some other interesting things to see in the local town at the pony express relay station and the local museum on the same street.‬

‪Love to see places of history like this where you can see how pioneers that settled the area lived at first. You can not go inside but from outside you still get a feel of what it was like. It's right off I-80.‬

‪Read several of the previous reviews. Yes, the place is closed and has For Sale signs in front. The house is visible and one can get photos with a telephoto lens. Disappointed in not being able to see it.‬

‪Were there July 24 2019. For sale signs. The red barn museum is locked up. If you walk to the left of the red barn, you can see the sod house further back but that's about it.‬

‪The sod house is easy to spot behind the red barn next to the gas station. There is also an interesting sculpture of a bison made from two miles of barbed wire. The museum is closed. I wish we had been able to learn more about making and living in sod houses, but it was still neat to see one.‬
