While the park is well kept, it only has 2 handfuls of electric sites and even less with water and sewer, it has lots of water activity for the young ones and canoe and kayak rentals the biggest con is the trains that run all day and night. If your used to tranquility this is not the place! On a scale of 1 to 5 i only give it a 3 due only to the trains!

As others have said, the railroad track is close by and trains are running all night. Bring earplugs. Our first night on a 16 day trip heading west, we camped one night in the A.C. Nelsen Camping Area 2 - the outhouse was the absolute worst smelling of our trip and for recent memory. Plus it had NO toilet paper! Other campgrounds had some scent in the outhouses to help with the smell, highly recommend the campground does this. The view of the Platte River was beautiful in the early morning.

We usually picnic, go cat fishing, catch some sun, watch wildlife, pick up old bison bones. Always fun to be outdoors.

Looked like a great floating water park. We arrived 30 minutes before the 2pm Friday session. 100 people were already in line - they only admit 60 swimmers (50% capacity). Pretty annoying that they don't allow online ticketing.

This is a great campsite with fishing and swimming. But the downside is the trains all night long the horns go off every 30 min if you're lucky.

Cons: trains are loud and run trough the night. They blow their horns several times when entering the area. The first night we woke 7-8 times , it got better the second night. The spaces are close together but we stayed during the week and had very few neighbors. The bathrooms are less than desirable, luckily I have boys. The toilets are cleaned once per day but the walls and floors are dirty and could use a new coat of paint. We used a portable camp shower otherwise it’s pay as you go shower.
Pros: the staff we encountered was nice and helpful. A ranger patrols the area and there are camp hosts at each area. We stayed near lake one and the river and had a great corner spot with a view. There is a picnic table and fire pit ring with grill grate. We collected wood in the area on walks. We swam in the river and avoided the crowed lake beach. There is fishing and boating. Walking trails, beautiful sunsets. We explored the other nearby parks during the day. The park has a camp store and there is grocery in the little town.
We paid $25 a night plus $8 for a car
There was minimal cell service , plan ahead

This is a nice swimming place and the water is always warm. It does get crowded at times but a very nice state park. If you don't swim, there's fishing too. Ready catch but nothing too big and not enough to bring home, in my opinion.

The floating water park is super fun. Very clean water & beach. Well supervised. We were there for the 2pm session on a Thursday in August with about 65 people (100 is max capacity), there was plenty of room. The 4pm session had about 30 people.

We took a group of 21 family members ranging in age from 64 on down to age 7. The teenagers and younger kids had an absolute blast and could navigate the course with ease. Us older ones had to take it a little easier yet found this a really fun way to spend the afternoon. The 90 minutes went really quickly.

We loved our site. Platte River on one side and lake on other. Nice quiet park even on 4th of July weekend.The kids loved the obstacle course in the water. Great fun!
