‪I brought my 8 year old granddaughter here on a quiet weekday and we spent almost 2 hours exploring! With no one else there, we felt it was "our place" as we enjoyed the beautiful displays on 3 levels, including the "secret basement" gems! She especially enjoyed seeing the birthstones for each month. We also enjoyed opening all of the easy to slide drawers downstairs to discover fun documents. A totally cool place if you have curious intellectually curious kids or are a geek yourself. A bonus was a random guest appearance by head of the museum who was obviously amused to see us enjoying ourselves and was eager to answer questions my granddaughter posed to her. Can't wait to bring her older sisters next time!‬

‪Love the rich history of mining in Nevada but the curator knew very little and was highly disinterested in the collection. Been twice, same attitude each time. I knew more about the minerals than he did. I find that profoundly sad. ‬

‪More mineral samples than anybody could ever want to see. All well identified and displayed. Also has a collection of old mining shares that are fun to look at and imagine being a rich owner.‬

‪this a lovely place to visit, and you'll leave appreciating the variety and variation of mineral formations. i'm not a fan of geology per se, and think rocks are kinda boring (i mean the processes of formation are interesting, but looking at the static end-product is *meh* to me). this museum, however, offers well-organized and annotated arrangements that any curious person could ogle and ponder for an hour or so. the basement has some NV artifacts (fine silversmithing from the mid/late 19th century, mining shares, etc).
What I love most about this place is actually how quiet and unbusy it is. This is in complete contrast to the so-called "library" that houses it. ( The DeLaMare Library is wonderful between regular semesters, but devolves rapidly into a crowded unproctored high-school study-hall level of talking and socializing between 9am-6pm M--F of regular semesters. It's the least library-like library (ie. quiet) I have ever been in. The student-union food court an equally quiet place to work. No disrespect directed intended Tod. )‬

‪I heard about this museum and went to the UNV-Reon campus. The building was not easy to find but I did and found the place to be interesting, informative, and factual. If you enjoy the earth sciences, geology, and mineralogy you will love the place. ‬

‪This museum's collection of well-displayed and clearly explained minerals enchants the layperson. The beautiful specimens are eloquently but simply explained.‬

‪This place was a gem (and free, other than parking on campus). Reminded me of something from Harry Potter because the room was of that 1930's era and all the specimens were in beautiful wooden cases. An incredible variety of minerals and rocks and even a couple dinosaur bones. Everything is well labeled so you can learn so much even going through it on your own. Gave myself only an hour but could have stayed a bit longer.‬

‪I parked the visitor parking, the Brian J Whalen parking lot and paid $4.50 for 4 hours. Luckily we ran into a campus ambassador who directed us to the building and gave a us thorough directions. The campus is gorgeous and it felt great to be on a college campus again. We spent an hour at the exhibit, it was an expansive collection. We'd have stayed longer but my 4 year old wasn't as interested and was getting hungry. We ate at the campus food court afterwards, very convenient!

‪If you are into gems, minerals, mining, and geology this museum concealed in the University campus is something you'll want to check out. Great mineral collections, and part of the exhibit hall is dedicated to the multitude of minerals found in Nevada. It's not just gold and silver.‬
